I assume that you bend glass. Have you heard of John Bowden and Co, they are in Stratford, East London. I used to get my curved glass for reproduction fish cases from them Yep, that's the core business, kiln formed glass. Hadn't heard of John Bowden & Co. Shame that co's like that seem to go un...

To follow up on some of those links you posted before Áine. Here are some links to examples of the above that I've seen on The Grumble: Shirt with Football in Acrylic "Bubble". Have seen this before quite a few times, and I think this might be a couple of Aussie fellas that patented this p...

Thanks for your kind words Áine. Of course most framers I know want to avoid acrylic like the plague, due to scratching / dulling reasons. (For some strange reason, US framers don't see this as an issue.) The all glass units are quite unique, and very suitable for modern settings etc. OK Robo, you g...

Hundreds - well, scores maybe, because we can research outside of our trade if need be. The question, for me, is what demand is there to? a. From my customers as in what they bring in for framing b. To them - i.e. what I want to display for sale in my shop. Ever made a case with museum glass? That ...

For what? John, CF originally left out the word 'need', asking "Does the Framing industry even to understand the difference?" (I'm fairly sure CF originally used the extra word 'even' in there.) So it was a little unclear initially what was being asked. Now. I thought that the missing wor...

For CFs and Áines info, with your image link you just missed the front bracket [ before IMG Not bad Cubic, not bad ! If you did the aged timber finish, that's well done. Some things are just impractical to frame to hang on a wall. Footys for example. Just how on Earth are you supposed to easily (con...

So, I'm not the only one who's been thinking that! Sorry, just read page 2 . . . I'm sure if Cubic can do what I can for framers over there, that I can do here, then he is all bottled up with excitement. If Cubic is interested in starting a commercial venture, even part time to keep busy, then he (...

Hello again Cubic, Ah, peak bagging. Haven't fully got into that here, more a route walker, and the more remote / difficult the better : ) We do detour within reason to get the meaningful / outstanding peaks though. I understand it is more of a major objective in the UK, with the 285 Scottish Munroe...

In addition to the above suggestions . . . For my general glass cleaning, I use a regular 5lt size glass cleaner decanted into a hand pump spray bottle. This has a small trace of ammonia in it, which technically should evaporate. However, I usually then heat this glass up to 750c !! You are dealing ...

Yes Ormond, there are a lot of factors involved . . . The UK optically coated glass market is in its infancy too, and they have quite better rates . . . not sure if it is manufactured anywhere in Europe, suspect not. So it would be around the same landed from the US into the UK as here in Oz, give o...

Welcome Cubic,

You and I have some common thoughts.
Glass cases are very underutilised in general to date, but slowly changing.

You are also a walker, as in fell / munrow ?
It's called bushwalking here, and that's what I do to keep things in perspective.

The list price in the UK is 40% lower than your price in Australia but I also assume the cost of distribution is higher. More likely a volume issue here Peter. Just not enough momentum as yet to get it going in volumes needed for importers to receive better pricing that they can pass through. If I ...

TruVue . . . I once scored the coated side accidentally. It broke on the scored line jes’ fine. I routinely brush the newly exposed edge of all cut glass with a stiffish wallpaper brush. Yes Bill, I also tested this once or twice with no bad effects. When framers use wall cutters (most framers use ...

Re: Tru Vu Conservation Clear

John, If TV has done the same thing with CC as it seems they have with CRC, then it would be a huge mistake on their part. Without any inside knowledge of what they have changed exactly, it is hard to say why these changes have been made with CRC, and possibly CC. In my experience, ANYTHING on the o...

complete change from yesterday when we took an amazing negative £3.50 Ah, was that an 8 x 10 mat (mount) cut from a full board ? : ) tomorrow we are cutting our first ever bit of Museum Glass, Now, I'm telling you, just keep think of it as a sheet of plain 2mm clear, helps keep the nerves at bay.

With mats you should recover the total cost of the mat plus a profit (plus your labour to cut it) on an 8 x 10 mat or even smaller. The theory adopted by some that the remainder of the mat will eventually sell is seriously flawed in the custom framing industry. In the majority of cases, it will rem...

Bill et al, For your info, framers in Australia generally buy their glass the same as the UK, in larger sheets. Buying the largest size sheets they can handle / cut safely, and store, reduces waste overall (more useful offcut sizes). The only places here that would optimise for mass produced sizes a...

G'day Graham, The POS card bordered pieces you can lay on clients artwork ? Handy to give an idea of benefits, yes. But what I mean by 'samples virtually selling this glass for you' is framed examples you put together yourself. Don't be tempted to use anything contrived from TV, it just doesn't look...
