Re: Morso nightmare
As Chris said, looks like your underpinning too close to the back. But honestly, underpinning Oak can be a really difficult at the best of times. I bought a Hoffmann router in the end... I suggest glue and clamp and underpin with clamp on (its a fiddle but possible), alternatively glue and clamp ove...

Re: Old newspapers
Only thing I can think to suggest is that a burnishing tool helps with the folds. I often have to wrap Artists prints in clear film. They all say that they hate doing it. I could see why, until I started burnishing all of the folds, now it's easy. Oh and a tiny bit of tape (I use 3M Magic tape) wher...

Re: Morso nightmare
When i was struggling with mine, an engineer asked me to do this test. Lock the blades in the bottom/hidden position. Move the blades to the front position (as for the final cut). Grab the top of the blade assembly with both hands, at the top left and top right and try to wiggle it. If there is move...

Re: David Million checking in for first time
Hi David, If it's a foot operated underpinner that you're looking for, I would say that you can't go wrong with a Cassese CS88. I started with a shiny new CS1 and passed it on as soon as I could. The CS88 is a far superior design and the results just don't compare. You can pick one up in the low hun...

Re: Here's a The Good, The Bad and The Ugly from me!
That looks great Matt! You're much further ahead than me with this sort of hand-finishing technique. I'd be interested to know what others would price this out at? I'd second the Morso. From time to time eBay is flooded with them, they can be had for £400, but factor in a new set of blades for £200 ...

Re: Cutting ash on morso
Do a search for "morso set up - thanks", it will talk about tweaking the left fence a tiny bit, which can solve this issue. Also, I discovered that my long rule wasn't actually straight enough for this purpose. Eventually I bit the bullet and bought an engineers straight edge (yes £50!!!) ...

Re: Cutting ash on morso
Are you taking small bites, little by little and making sure that the last cut is the smallest finishing cut?
If all else fails, the best filler for Ash I have found is Ronseal multi Purpose wood filler "Natural".
How are you joining it? (good luck with an underpinner...)

Re: Large needlecraft
I would attach a piece of cotton rag board to a piece of 5mm foam board with EVA glue and lace it with the rag board facing the back of the work.
I wouldn't adhere it, unless the customer insisted, but I'd still advise against it.

80 teeth is the sweet spot apparently. Best quality you can afford and as said before, always wider blade than the riving knife.

@steve N Yes, it's all possible, that was my original point to Mark, about injecting some optimism back into it all. I have done quite a few consultations on Whatts App messaging too, as photos and videos can be included in the chats and it is end to end encrypted, so totally secure. The only downsi...

Mark at Underpinnerspares.co.uk sells a white rubber "Tri Clamping pad", have a look in the CS88 section of spares. It has a funny shaped top, which i just cut off and glued to the metal clamp base. Its very soft and distributes the pressure better for softer mouldings than the L shaped fe...

Customer Consultations via Zoom.
Hi All, Mark has asked if I would like to give a run down on how I have completed some customer consultations over Zoom. He is right in thinking that laptop webcams are often not as good quality as desktop webcams. One customer foresaw this and arranged the meeting for a time when he could be on the...
