Re: Tapatalk

Hi Andy, I looked atTapatalk about a year ago when I was considering ways to enhance the forum experience for smartphone users. At that time phpBB validation appeared to be imminent so I decided to hold off installing the mod until it got the approval of the forum development team. However, that has...

Re: Wonga dot com

The adverts that appear at the bottom of each page are Google Ads. As far as I can tell, if Google recognises members, by cookies say, or by the IP address they are using, it places ads that are targeted at the individual based on their recent Google searches. For example, about a month ago I Google...

Re: Saying Hello

You become a forum member by creating a profile that contains enough information to convince the administrator that you are a person and not a bot of some kind, and also that you have a legitimate reason for wishing to become a part of our community. This is an easy test – so far over 3000 members h...

Re: Saying Hello

I'm beginning to feel the bad guy here. :) At the top of every thread in Sales/Wants is the following message: Forum rules All sellers are required to have a forum profile that identifies them clearly. (Such as - name, surname, location, business name et cetera) Its intended purpose is to protect fo...

Re: FRENCH FRAMERS FORUM

It can take time for a forum to build momentum. We had a certain amount of 'stagnation' here from time to time in the early days.

On behalf of moderators past and present, thank you for your kind remarks, Keith.

Merry Christmas.

Re: 20 second forum page refresh

Sarah, you should have known that your sound advice about not fixing what ain't broke would be lost on a dedicated gadget freak like me. :) It was too late anyway, as I'd already set the wheels in motion, and in fact we have just migrated from Arizona to London this morning. The forum now runs on it...

Re: 20 second forum page refresh

The new SQL server made no difference to the forum's performance, it seems to have corrected itself somehow, probably because a bandwidth hog on our shared server has been moved. In an effort to speed things up I disabled the search feature for guests and robots. Next time I'm tinkering, I'll re-ena...

Re: 20 second forum page refresh

Having spent an hour and seven minutes on the phone yesterday with Godaddy support without really getting anywhere, I’ve come to the conclusion that this is an issue that I’ll have to tackle myself. I think that the forum may be getting too big for its current shared hosting account and perhaps it i...

Re: 20 second forum page refresh

Apologies to everyone for the forums recent speed issues.

Our host, Godaddy, are aware of the problem and are working on a solution.

Hopefully we will soon be back to normal.

Re: Cutting Deep Bevels on Valiani Mat Pro 120

In hindsight, I shouldn’t have used this thread to make a general point, sorry about that. I just took the opportunity to make my feelings known, however I do hope that not too many folk will disagree with me regarding having their framing related products supported on the forum. I’m just going to s...

Re: Cutting Deep Bevels on Valiani Mat Pro 120

Sorry John, from your tone it appears that you have taken offence at my gadget reference. Is it the price that makes a CMC not a gadget? It can hardly be its complexity as any of my “random gadgets” would be orders of magnitude more complex than any CMC. No, what I was trying say is that while the f...

Re: Cutting Deep Bevels on Valiani Mat Pro 120

I have gained so much over the years form many open forums where technical support for random gadgetry that I own has been freely given. Even though the fault finding diagnostics on those forums is often protracted, with many questions and answers flying back and forth in an effort to get to the hea...

David, the thread has been pulled on a temporary basis while Strokebloke does a bit of a rewrite.

It will be reinstated as soon as Jack gives the go-ahead.

Re: 20 second forum page refresh

Probably caused by the host doing a spot of housekeeping.
Seems okay at the moment.

I did notice that the forum was slow today, but I thought it was just our tired old XPs. (Maybe Santa will bring us a nice new Windows 8 machine for Christmas.)
