Re: Earthborn clay paint

There could be an opportunity there. Are match pots available? and if so.... I'm thinking, make up a couple of frames for the Interior design shop using their paint to display along with the paint showing customers what can be achieved with that paint range. It may work out and benefit you both. Pet...

Matt, what can I say that's not already been said.

That is a truly amazing painting and such a well crafted frame.

Re: Quadruple mount?

Peter, your right to doubt my chances of getting the mounts right but that is what my customer wants. Concocting a frame would be a doddle but my customer has firm ideas.

At the moment I'm leaning towards letting Wessex Fine Art cut the mounts :?

Re: Mounting Wedding Rings

I have just held a very old tin in place in a frame by in-bedding small, round magnets in the mount board. Mount board peels away in layers from the back using a sharp utility knife.

Welcome to the FF btw :D

Re: Another fascinating packaging thread

I have always used brown paper and still do. It does the job and looks smart and professional. Folded correctly, you have four layers protecting each corner. Some will maintain that brown paper will mark sensitive moulding but I have never had a problem. As for corner protectors, I associate them wi...

Re: Mounting options?

Hi Steven I feel your pain :( (I have a couple of jobs like that at the mo') In a life time of framing I have never turned away work. But on occasions have thought "why did I take this on"? There must be an easier way of making a living :giggle: It strikes me the biggest problem you have w...

Re: Quadruple mount?

Thanks Steve - such practical advice as usual. As for preparation, I always work as you suggest, clearing the decks, and allowing plenty of uninterrupted time. Cutting a window mount this size, with my mount cutter, does mean lifting the guide rail off the lugs, cutting so far then, keeping the blad...

Hello Teresa and welcome to the FF :D

Regarding the pm you sent. I only realized recently, (because' I'm very slow on the uptake  ) that a sent pm does not leave your end until it has been opened the other end :o

Mark and Peter, thank you for your replies. :D

If the image was much smaller I would not be so hesitant but the poster is 920 x 600 :?

At end of the day I'm daft enough to give it a go :Slap: after all, there's only a few things that can go wrong :D

Quadruple mount?

It's been a very long time since I cut a quadruple mount for one image. This is for a very demanding customer who has chosen four colors from the Arqadia range for a large poster. The poster is of little value and will be dry mounted. As full sheets are required there is very little room for error. ...

Hello Bob and welcome to the FF :D I have been framing for a lifetime and find framing medals very demanding. I'm not certain why but more and more sets of medals are coming my way to be framed. I would suggests you look at some of our members web sites and see the finished results that other framer...

Hello Wayne and welcome to the FF :D Life constantly throws curved balls and unpleasant stuff and I find it's better to put it behind you asap and not to dwell. I try to do as W Churchill suggests and keep "buggering on" Looking forward to some hilarities.  Peter.

Re: Underpinner advice

Hi T and welcome to the FF :D You may want to consider a second hand CS89. Mine copes with Oak and Ash with no problem. This specific pneumatic machine has a rebate clamp and as Mark said a good quality pneumatic is the best underpinner for hardwood. Changing the wedges from softwood to hardwood is ...

Re: Keencut system 4000

I too always hand cut my glass on a bench. IMHO cutting glass is the easiest part of the picture framing process and buying half size sheets that are supplied these makes handling less risky.

If you cut your glass in batches waste is minimised.

Am I the only one who noticed "Man in a Suitcase" stand his ciggy on end/upright on the table? I must have been very impressionable because it started me smoking :)

Re: Flakey painty

Just invested in a little paint sprayer (Wagner W100). I fancied one for the fence panels anyway :D . Going to do a coat or 2 of the Peel Stop, then spray on 2 or 3 coats of the water-based gloss stuff. To help with durability, I'll finish with rattle cans of clear lacquer - couple of coats Should ...

Re: hanging type for narrow profiles

Often it's good to remove the frame as a means of support altogether and use a stout backing with d-rings riveted on. The tails of the rivets need to be isolated if you want a 'proper' job. As seconded by Steve. And there are those little metal fittings that clip over the edge of the backing...
