Re: opening of my new picture framing shop
I keep virtually no stock these days apart from some blacks, fast moving traditional woods, natural wood veneers and some mouldings I sell to regular trade customers. I also keep unfinished mouldings for staining/waxing as required and mark up accordingly My experience is a 2 week turn around is gen...

I see the MOD have lost another today so you better hurry up looking on trains before they all go! Could try lost property at the station. Friend of mine used to commute by train and never took an brolly. In the event of rain he went to lost property office and told them he had lost a black umbrella...

Re: Nasty scratchy mat black moulding ....
Go and get one of those instant shoe shine things. The sort that has a sponge applicator and a tub of waxy black substance. Apply and buff off. Does not work on all mouldings so try on a peice of scrap first. You might also have to go over the whole of the frame as it does produce a bit of a shine s...

I would go for 2Gb RAM even with Xp on the basis it is better to have it and not need it that to need it and not have it and all new software seems to be memory hungry now. I recently bought a new Dell desktop with Xp installed for the shop from Serac_Solutions on ebay for less than I could buy the ...

Something I just read on the "Profit Margins" thread which was posted by Not Your Average Framer has just made me think about this. He got funding through the government's New Deal for week with Pete Bingham. I read an article in Art Business Today about funding for arts related businesses...

I don't use Estlite so cannot comment on what data you enter in there although I do have a pricing programme (Wessex Premier). If doing a manual calculation I would take my material costs and multiply by at least five to give me a retail value. From what others tell me all the pricing programmes nee...

Keencut are the best company I know anywhere in any business in providing telephone support.
I concur with the above calibration procedure. If you ever have problems then use the telephone to talk to a real person (in this country).

I had the same problem today, late morning and afternoon.
Perhaps all the Ingerland footie fans were on their forums/blogs.
Apparently our £120k p.w. guys were made to work hard for a win against a bunch of ex Russian federation part-timers.

We get ours from Cachet. We are in a rural location and a lot of theirs are shooting, fishing, sheepdogs, landrovers, horses, birds etc. Don't fly off the display but good steady sellers and if you place a decent order they throw in a full size spinner. Also all the images on the cards are available...

Re: manufactureing and selling to shops
Unless you have invested in a factory capable of knocking out frames by the 1000 don't even consider it. You will never compete with the mass producers. Opposite my shop I have a place calling itself "The Warehouse Clearance Superstore". They sell cheap rubbish including ready made frames ...

Try Mitrecraft Wholesale Supplies in Lincoln 01522 511322. They get them to order in a huge range of sizes but without the foam inserts but if you are desperate perhaps you could add foam yourself.

Re: moulding advice
There is a lot of moulding around on some very "iffy" base wood at the moment. As well as getting your blades sharpened I would increase your wastage factor accordingly. I am not giving mfrs. a 2nd chance now, if it's no good I seek an alternative elsewhere.

Try pushing down on the two knurled knobs as you fire the point and see if they then fire. I got used to doing this with mine without thinking about it. I think it may be due to the spring getting tired and it happened more when the stack of points was getting low. I went over to a pneumatic some ti...
