Re: Slips and Tips ??

Is the calculator in your 2nd picture to work out what to charge or how long it took?

I am sure it is not to work out 7 x 4 = 28

There is a set of 50 cig. cards in the "jobs I'll get around to some day drawer". No may be not!

Nice job by the way.

Re: Slips and Tips ??

A while back I did a 6 aperture mount with fillets in all the apertures. There was one large one top left and 5 smaller ones to the right and below. Made the fillets for the large aperture no problem and then did the smaller ones. On putting the smaller ones in I found I had cut 20 pieces just a fra...

Re: How do they do this.

Thankfully I think the "Venture Look" has had its day. Trouble is a lot of the portrait photographers were copying their look and now they are looking for something different. Acryllic panels seem to be the way some are going but most of us don't do those, ditto injket canvas wraps and mon...

Re: How do they do this.

Did you ask the price? I did when one of their guys was hanging round outside our local Tesco. Some studio and portrait framing packages are £2000.00!! Ever think we are at the wrong end of the business? Here is the Arqadia Stock No for the moulding 440 601 000 (although they probably used the deepe...

Or stain plain ash with Liberon ebony palette dye then open the grain a little with a copper wire brush apply liming wax and buff to a nice smoky grey finish.

Re: Moulding for black & white prints

Virtually all of our black and white framing is done in black, silver or pewter mouldings.

So that narrows you choce to a few tens of thousands! How about looking at Arqadia's "Manhattan" range in the Larson Juhl section as a start.

Photos vs. Art

I am having a "Photography Month" in October and wondered what experiences others have had with similar events. We have tried supporting local artists by offering them hanging space at ridiculously low prices/commission in the hope that they might use us for framing and buy some of the art...

Re: New Valiani Software

Sorry for delay in replying. The software we have been given access to as an upgrade is Version 4.2.1 and in case it makes a difference we have the Mat Pro 120 which was new in August 2006 (Serial No 1506003). I have now loaded the software onto my Windows XP machine (service pack 3) although this i...

Re: website

Go to your mount board manufacturer's website copy and paste your selected colours into Photoshop (or other imaging software). Then repeat the colour into a chevron shape or what ever you choose to have on your website. Job done! I just tried it on Arqadia's website and it worked OK for me. Alternat...

Re: Dry mounting

Hi there and welcome to the forum from a one time lurker. First thing to do is get yourself on a course with Hotpress. They make the all singing and dancing hot glass vacuum presses but the principals are the same and you will use the same tissues/substrates. The course lasts a day and are free alth...

Re: Rebate damaged when cutting

I keep my old keencut and stanley blades close to the underpinner to nick out the fluffy bits then I use a Liberon touch up pen to colour the cut ends as close as possible to the moulding colour before joining.

Never really seen it as a huge problem just part of bespoke framing.

New Valiani Software

Just had the new software upgrade for our Valiani Mat Pro 120 via Simons. Loaded onto the computer attached to the CMC which runs Vista and it didn't like it much (no surprises really as with all things Vista). So dug out an old computer gathering dust in the loft which runs Windows 98! and hey pres...

Re: Anyone tried BACK/0008?

I was offered this too, in fact, first thing the Rep. showed me on the last visit.

We usually use Art Bak Aqua or Art Back Conservation but at the price this is being offered it would seem to make sense to use this exclusively.

Look forward to hearing feedback from any users.

Re: wedding signature boards

The Edding 1800 series and Pilot DR range of technical drawing pens have light fast pigment ink and are available in a variety of thicknesses. The Pilot range are fast drying.

Artists use these for "Pen and Wash" work.

Available from art material stockists e.g. ourselves.
