Re: 'Should I or shouldn'd I?'

Re: Design

Hi danchips1 All of the above are great advice, I would add have a look at some books about framing, one I would recommend is by Pete Bingham, Picture Framing a practical guide to all aspects of art and the craft pretty long title but a good read, I forget where I got it from ( sure other members wi...

Re: Is the recession affecting customers tastes in mouldings

Hi John, Yeah, you are right about treating them special, I spent about two and half hours with the guy from Northampton, it' was his first time having anything framed, walking him through the process of how and why to do things the right way. I have some enquires about ornate and swept frames again...

Re: Is the recession affecting customers tastes in mouldings

Hi JGF's It's hard for me to notice a difference, since I only open my new business in November last year, but the trend seems to for Black , White, Box frames, Wide Scoops and now Black aluminium, Hand Painted ( Black or White). Since I opened I only have used one brown with a gold sight edge, a fe...

Re: Fire Retardant Framing

Thanks Guys, I will have to take into account all the good points you have raised, and it will be reflected in the quote, I was thinking along the lines of aluminium frames, not sure about the glazing, but the safety membrane on the inside surface of the glass is a good idea ( thanks NYF), as you sa...

Fire Retardant Framing

Hi all, I just had a customer come in, he has a friend who would like to hold an photo exhibition at a local hospital, the hospital has said that all the framing must be fire retardant, also the prints must be fire retardant as well  . As the customer's friend is only a hobbyist, I don't thin...

Re: (All together now....) "Wrinkles in My Drymounts...

Hi Moglet, What happens sometime is the outer edge of the work/tissue starts to stick before the centre of the work, so the tissue will move and wrinkle, so you need to stop the outer edges sticking first, give this a try. Starting from the bottom up foam blanket, then then the backing, tissue, work...

Re: My new workshop

Hi Adrian, Thanks for the comments, once I had done the same as you, painted the place, I cleared the place and marked out on the floor with chalk where everything would go, then had a good walk around to see if it would work and holding my hands out as if carrying a sheet of glass, easier to reloca...

Re: High Street Vs. Back Street (Location, Location, Location)

Hi John We in much the same position myself, in a light industrial area in Bath,we only opened in November last year, so what we did was to do a leaflet drop in the surrounding area before Christmas offering 10% off custom framing if they brought the leaflet in when placing the order. Re: EstLite Vs PFP pricing software ?

Hi Bagpuss, Having just opened my own workshop, after working for other people for the last 20 years, I wanted to use a pricing program, after looking at most of them, I went for PFP.
