Picture Hooks
Crumbs, I sold Toly hooks almost 30 years ago so hope they're still OK. Great for hard walls where bent pins are the norm. I always instructed customers to use 2 hooks for correct horizontal effect and if one hook fails then picture still stays up! Drills, rawl plugs and plasterboard walls can be a ...

Who would have predicted palm held computers/phones back in the 20th century? OK, maybe some geeks but for young children too!
My framing prediction is reflective glazing will be obsolete by 2050. Fairly safe bet but any other brainwaves?

Crumbs, had that question several times in my 28 years behind the counter. And the customer is always right even when dopey! Gentle, reassuring correction required and 'Carry On' with the sale.

Mobile Framing Service
Hi Tom, Replies suggest travelling around would be unprofitable and I have to agree. However, before retirement I had several different art club members begging me to visit their societies to frame for their family, friends and upcoming exhibitions, etc. I declined but with a suitcase of moulding sa...

Get back into it - or not?
Hi Artie, In my humble opinion, sadly it's a shrinking market - second hand equipment is plentiful and usually not being replaced with new kit! I recently retired after 30 happy years but I really don't miss meeting all those deadlines at all. Shop closures (like mine) continue so working from home ...

Corporal Jones' butchers shop had a separate cubical for paying so pencil prices on white wrapping essential. Before my time but I do remember sawdust on the floor (blood?) and buying a few items again wrapped so prices on the corners pencilled for totalling and the till. So Butchers always had a pe...

Who is the Artist?
An experienced 'birding' customer of mine was offered a freebie trip to the islands to help with counting, netting & ringing birds, etc. at the expense of the RAF, presumably. So a talented photographer/artist could easily while away evenings painting and then donate them to the NAAFI stores to ...

In my 'Memory Book' where folks were going to exhibit, or order lots of framing, or boast about their valuable homes & artwork, etc., never to return, they eventually became T W. In my head, the late, great Terry Wogan (in case my notes were ever observed or queried) but of course Time Wasters i...

So there it is, Whitbyframer, your loss should help other Newbies in the future. The other no-nos are large Ikea cardboard frames 'just' needing tidying up a bit as the sides bow out (and the scratched acrylic following no doubt). Wilko's flimsy glass is another 'cause celebre' for us muggins who ne...

Lucky you for working in beautiful Whitby, great fish 'n' chips. Unlucky you for agreeing to downsize plastic framing, the corners always shatter! :head: Stand by for an avalanche of responses, mostly to the tune of 'Life's a learning curve'. Beware of the famous "Could you just....." Now ...
