Re: Stacked Frames

Thanks for the shout out, Dermot.

Here's a heavily modified R+H A644 with some other bits and pieces added.

Re: Hello all, it's been a while...

Thanks for all the comments!

Mark, most are custom made for clients with most orders coming from Instagram. I do make a few for my own paintings and try and make some for stock but most are orders. Selling lots to artists, art collectors, interior designers and and a few art galleries.

Large Tabernacle Project

Hello everyone.

Just thought I'd share a progress pic of a quite complicated but fun project I'm working on.
Almost all of it is constructed from off the shelf mouldings from Rose and Hollis. Can you recognise any?

Regards

Matt

Re: Newbie Advice - Best staining method, showing off the grain

That's a great bit of advice, Jim, making chevrons for different finishes. Sounds obvious now when I think about it but I've only ever tried different finished on scraps of moulding then kept those in a corner somewhere. I'll be making chevrons from now on and displaying them proudly!

Re: Chevron question

NYAF, I'd just like the option to be able to do some walk in work if it presented itself, either handfinished or prefinished mouldings. I have a large space to work in which is open to the public so why not? Right now I have nothing to show a customer so I'd probably lose out on the work, looking to...

Re: Chevron question

Thanks for all the responses. Dermot and Mark, I'll definitely keep on doing what I'm doing in my own way, I was thing more for jobs that perhaps don't require hand finished frames. Say someone who works around the corner wants a small print or photo framed, right now I have nothing to show them oth...

Re: Hello all, it's been a while...

Thanks for all the comments! 2 years yesterday since I bought my first moulding to play about with, I've had some great advice over that time though that's helped hugely.

Chevron question

Hello all. I'm looking to have a core range of mouldings to offer regular framing to locals but was wondering what mouldings to offer? I've only made hand finished frames so far so don't have any moulding samples to show potential customer in my workshop. Is there a basic range offered by suppliers ...

Hello all, it's been a while...

I haven't posted anything in a while but I do look through the forum most days, you just never know when you'll spot some useful bit of info you didn't know you needed to know until you read it! I make mostly custom black frames for artists and collectors and have just recently moved out of my tiny ...

Re: Using Gesso to 'Fill' Imperfections?

I started making gesso with RSG from a well known framers' supply company and had no end of trouble. It was only when I tried another brand of RSG after getting advice on this forum (switched to Manetti, thanks Dermot) that most of my gesso problems disappeared.

Re: Working on some new mouldings and finishes

Great work Dermot. I love the wood finish one.
I've bought RSG from a a framing supplier and found it to terrible to work with. I bought some of better quality on Dermot's recommendation and it's like night and day, much much better to work with. I actually quite like the smell of it, Mark.

Curved mouldings

Does anyone know if you can get curved mouldings, so you could make an arched top frame? I've had an enquiry from a customer who sent this image and is looking for something similar.

Any ideas?

Matt
