Re: Norman Ackroyd Artworks
Can't speak to the other bits, but regarding the mountboard... I'd use whatever was the most expensive option the customer was willing to pay for. I definitely wouldn't do higher quality mountboard because I thought it was better. I would definitely try and upsell to the customer to get as much prof...

Re: Lost property
As long as you draw sufficient attention to it (it could be regarded as overly onerous...but maybe not, just don't try to hide it) then it should be ok. At least up here, English property law is a strange and unknown thing to me. With a few exceptions, you can pretty much contract anything you want....

Re: Vinyl Album
I had a few packs of these in the workshop from when I started http://www.halfords.com/workshop-tools/garage-equipment/fuses-electricals-fixings/halfords-trim-panel-buttons# Pretty handy for anything like this, can snip the end off the back and hold it in place with a dab of glue to keep it secure. ...

This was the thread that discussed magnets and EMP viewtopic.php?f=6&t=13227
It's about mounting football boots, so might even be relevant!

Re: Help needed to frame wedding shoes
Someone once suggested two neodymium magnets, one in the shoe the other behind the mount board. Seemed an elegant solution to me. I believe there was also some discussion over how well it would withstand an EMP attack... Failing that, if they're fairly lightweight, I would probably hold them in plac...

Re: Vinyl Album
The last time we did one like this...I used double sided tape and some glue! Did the job nicely! *waits for the conservation police to come* To give it some context, they'd went and bought a vinyl copy of the song they had for the first dance at their wedding from a charity shop for a few quid and w...

Could you cut a bit of wood for it to sit on then suspend the wood rather than the mountcutter?

Re: Mountboard Quantities?
Has anyone else who uses the Munken board notices specs?
The first lot I had were brilliant, but the box I've just got through seemed to have loads of black specs through it.
Still works out fairly cheap, so I've ordered another box anyway, hoping it was maybe a bad batch somewhere...

Re: oh what to do with left over moulding!
This obviously won't be useful for every moulding and it's maybe a bit labour intensive (unusual situation here, labour isn't an issue), but little boxes are a nice thing to pop together sometimes. You could make tiny ones for jewellery etc, put cross stitches in the lid, leave it glazed for someone...

Re: oh what to do with left over moulding!
I sometimes do a sale on selected mouldings and put a little sticker on them. Customers get a bargain and I get rid of moulding. Up to you how much if anything you want to take off. Could keep it vague, make it sound like a good deal and not actually change the price... TBH though, taking 20% or so ...

Re: Custom Framing - Industry Status Quo (blog post)
As jamesknr says...the original blog post just doesn't say anything. It doesn't make a point that anyone can agree or disagree with.
You could infer the point that if you're business isn't working as it is then you need to try something different. Not really controversial, just common sense.

cutting mounts at an angle
Hi, I'm trying to cut a mount to display an embroidered handkerchief which is embroidered diagonally (so looking for a diamond shaped mount). I know keencut sell a kit for cutting at different angles, does anyone know of a way to do it without buying the kit? I feel like I should be able to make som...

I just get an error and it closes down. If I'd heard rave reviews I would have looked in to sorting it, but I imagine if it was as good as it claims to be we would have heard by now!

Munken is good stuff. Fairly cheap but good quality. Good CSR credentials too!
I'd say unless it's an awkward colour I would definitely over order, it'll get used at some point anyway.

Re: Keencut hooking
I find it's generally caused by either the blade being set to cut too deep or the blade is blunt and needing changed. It can also happen if you're not moving the slipmat after each cut and the blade it getting caught in the same groove each time. Or it could be too much lateral movement in the cutti...

Re: Corner clamps advice
I've only ever used the last ones. They are a bit of a faff, but once you get used to them they're not so bad.
They do get a really tight join. I inherited them in the workshop here, didn't realise they were as pricey!

Hair dryer to remove dust
One of the guys in the workshop the other day wanted to get a hairdryer on a cool setting to remove bits of dust etc before sealing up a frame. My instinct is that it's not a great idea. Has anyone tried it? or does anyone have a better reason why it's a bad idea other than my instinct? Thanks, andrew
