Re: Hanging an mdf clip frame

Just pop into your local framer and ask if you can buy a couple of d-rings and a couple of Biff Rivets The Biff rivets have a split shaft, which you can bend each part down flat, then hit with your favorite hammer Make a two holes in the MDF backing, drill if you want to, then place the d-rings on w...

Re: Worried about the weight

That moulding shold be okay for 3mm glass of that size, don't bother with a subframe, as that will only ADD to the weight :giggle: :sweating:

Re: Discontinued pine mouldings.

Search for PIN/02 and PIN/05. They are still there and plenty in stock. Simons website is horrendous to use. It’s so user unfriendly. The problem starts with their completely random and unrelated product coding, as you’ve found out! The filtering options for products are so wide-ranging it’s hard t...

Re: Debossing a line around mount aperture

If you don't have a gauge, then make your own Cut the mount, face up on the bench, now place a small piece of card from the corner of the window to the outer corner of the mount, mark the card where these two corners are, now place a mark on the card where you want your debossed line to be on the mo...

Re: AR glass vs AR acrylic

In my old workshop the upstairs had a slopping ceiling with 2 Velux windows on one side, on one sunny afternoon I had stored a small USA flag framed in Conservation 99% glass, it was only up there for 2 hours, the customer came to collect, I went upstairs to fetch it, when I got up there y, the sun ...

Re: Excalibur 5000 advice

Deep solid oak is a different matter, you will need Hard Wood Pins, and you may find that you will not be able to stack them, as hard wood pins are ground sharp both side of the pin, so most likley the second pin will miss the first pin and go up the side of the first pin, use the band clamp on the ...

Re: Excalibur 5000 advice

Hi Nolon As to the glass cutting, if you have been starting the scoring above and off the sheet, then you may have damaged the wheel or the spindle of the wheel, this then could be the cause of your problem, I would get a new wheel to be on the safe side. It's the same if you are using a hand cutter...

Re: Excalibur 5000 advice

On the Excalibur I do pretty much the same as Peter (prospero) has said, including clamping the glass, I start about 3-4mm down from the top edge of the glass, then bring the tool down to the bottom and off the sheet of glass, with the glass still clamped, I push the left hand piece of glass near th...

Vivian Kistler books are good, but very American oriented, like 'Mat' instead of Mount, 'Rabbet' instead of Rebate so on and so forth....... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabbet Good place to find framing books is The Fine Art Trade, https://www.fineart.co.uk/shop/Default.aspx Or Lion Picture Framin...

Re: Anyone know what this mountboard is ?

That looks like someone has covered the mount with fabric after the window was cut, you used to be able to get fabric covered mountboard, mostly fine hessian , then when you cut the window, you see the mountcard core at the bevel, these have mainly gone out of fashion. But this one looks like someon...

I used to make some boxes for our mounts and some small 6"x6" frames I used to sell on ebay and Amazon, used a board from Simons, can't remember the ref, but it was white one side, brown the other, it the same material as cardboard corners. I then used a brown backing board from Simons BAC...
