eBay UK

Just had a quick look on the UK eBay for Picture Framing.

http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/search. ... sicSearch=

The search yielded thirty items today (March 21st) including underpinners, mount cutters, etc.

Many thanks Framerguy for your informative posts and encouraging words. Browsing through the grumble http://thegrumble.com on the subject of pricing, it is fascinating to note the huge variation in charges for the same work. An interesting difference between framers on each side of the Pond is the a...

Not yet Len, just the A&T list at the moment kindly donated by mark, but if any of the other suppliers would care to send in their moulding price list, or if any members have such a list, I would be happy to put it up on the site making it available to all EstLite users.

Forum Rankings

I am toying with the idea of introducing a ranking system on the forum. You know, the more you post, the higher the rank. Not being all that imaginitave, I have come up with the following ranks:- Novice Artisan Adept Pundit Savant Ideas anyone? Is there a source for suitable graphics which might acc...

Some interesting points here. Mark, you have made me rethink the point of sale strategy. When dealing with customers who present non-valuable items, and if it is an appropriate treatment, we automatically include drymounting without discussion with the customer. The majority of whom aren't intereste...

Drymount Digital Images

Has anybody had any experience with drymounting digital photographs? We recently drymounted some largish photos (15 x 28in). They were on Epson paper I think, quite heavy and much like 'real' photographic paper. Because I had read somewhere that these images can be damaged by too much heat, I kept t...

Hi Len, Perhaps the strength of feeling in this thread has given a false perspective on what amounts to the negligable writeoff which we have all incurred when customers fail to collect. In our case, I would guess, the actual value of uncollected framing jobs would amount to £100 to £200 per year. C...

Another good topic John. We try to take a deposit of 50% on items which are of no value other than to the owner. We are also toying with the idea of charging, or threatening to charge, a storage fee for items not collected within a certain period after the due date. Does anyone have any experience i...

The discussion so far, while not always a direct answer to your question John, has certainly given me some food for thought, and I thank you for focussing our attention in this vital direction.

It would be nice to see a little more numeric content in this thread though:)

In that case, I'm a NI framer. Though the Internet has scant regard for such geographical niceties - and a good thing too! I do hope though, that everyone feels welcome. The forum was never envisaged as being for a particular group. The common interest is Picture Framing and it is my desire that we ...

Hi Martin, Thanks for the suggestion. But do you mean something in addition to the Sales/Wants section? (Maybe you havn't clicked on the Forum Index ) If this section became very popular, it might be necessary to split it into classifications. But for now, I think, the single catch-all heading shoul...

We would charge £40.90 for this job, but knock off the 90p. Major re-think on its way though. It is years since we reviewed our pricing strategy. For example, we have been charging the same for mounts for the last 8 years or so, ever since we went over exclusively to conservation. Your post should b...

The more the merrier Stephen. Though I'm not sure what the FATG response will be. In June last year, when I first had the idea for this forum, I sent them an email inviting them to inform the members that this new resource was available. I thought that framers would be interested in availing themsel...

Although we now use a Wizard (Computerised Mount Cutter) which will handle up to 40 x 60in, for many years we cut large mounts on the floor of the shop using a little hand cutter, you know, the kind you literally hold in your hand. It is a two man operation though, you need someone to stand on the f...

Campbell,

You might also want to check that your new machine knows that it is in New Zealand.

Have a look at your Regional Settings in XP's Control Panel.
