Re: best way to store moulding

At the suppliers! About a year ago I was wondering about stock levels whilst thinking about starting up my framing workshop, the consensus seemed to be keeping stock levels low and ordering moulding when required, the thinking being money tied up in stock could be put to better use in the bank , ea...

Re: Sticking down a canvas with a Hotpress anyone ?

I thank everyone for their comments on my initial post, although I'm not sure I would have asked if I'd known how heated it would get ... :giggle: I do think that this forum is for us framers and everyone should feel at ease to contribute without fear of being lambasted when their views do not toe t...

Sticking down a canvas with a Hotpress anyone ?

A customer ( local artist ) has given me a canvas that I took off one of those ridiculous curvy edged stretcher bar frames, she has flattened it out in the corners for me and has asked to stick it onto a backing board and frame it traditionally with a double mount under glass. I am not going to use ...

Underpinning slips with pneumatic Cassese

Hi, I've just accepted delivery of my new Cassese pneumatic underpinner, it's a beaut ! I had a manual Cassese which served me well but that piddly little manual gripper thingy used to get on my nerves and this beast uses some mean looking gripping clamps with teeth that drive the mouldings together...

Re: Which mount board?

The whitecore colourmount now seems to be of 2 qualities, some of the range is listed as conservation whitecore with 'chemically purified core and backing paper, and bleed/fade resistant face papers' and the rest is standard whitecore with 'chemically purified core and backing paper and neutral pH ...

Re: How do you rate D & J Simons?

Well just to stick my oar in ... I've been using Simons for over 15 years, admittedly it's only now than I'm setting up a business full-time but I've always used them because they were 10 minutes up the road on a number 26 bus from Liverpoool Street, where I used to work as an I.T. bod ... it is a b...

HELP ! a JAWS Poster !

Hi, A friend has asked me to frame an original "Jaws" poster, it cost him about £200 so I said it was probably best not to dry mount it. Given that its quite big, just under a metre long, what's the best way to support it within the frame ( to conservation standard). It's not going to have ...

Re: FATG Website

I agree Roboframer, I must admit I just assumed that they wouldn't have a forum at all, being a bit out of touch with the members actual requirements but that's encouraging if they are to have one. It will be interesting to see if it takes off just with Guild members, if not perhaps the Guild should...

Re: Nameplates anyone ?

thanks everyone for your replies, I quite liked the idea of purchasing them on-line . I have used gold metallic card previously and used a laser printer to print on it, that gives quite a good effect. Perhaps I'll get in touch with the chap that advertises in Lion.
Thanks again,

Nameplates anyone ?

Evening all :) I want to do more frames for football shirts / memorabalia, etc., can anyone tell me if there's anywhere I can buy engraved / printed nameplates, either brass or those metalic affect plastic ones ? If I could order them on-line that would be ideal, I don't really want to invest in an ...

Advice on setting up a new business identity / logo‏

Hi, I have been trawling the local interweb for a freelance designer who could come up with a memorable Logo/identity for my new home-based framing business . Can anyone recommend someone who you have dealt with previously perhaps ? Ideally I would like him/her to do the web site as well but t...

Ever used the Keencut Artist-Plus ?

Hi, I have a Valiani Mat-Pro mountcutter ( pneumatic, not CMC ) , before that I used a Keencut Ultimat which I was more than happy with. I now want an additional smaller mount-cutter to use for cutting decorative mats and deep bevels. I was looking at the Keencut Artist-Plus, I can get a 30" on...

A Grand Day Out - but take a shovel !

Hi, Just made it back from the Spring Fair to build a snow man ( very small one ) in the front garden  I really enjoyed myself and think it was as good as last year if not better. I sat in on a couple of seminars arranged by the FATG, Mal Reynolds did one on framing samplers, very interesting ...

Hi Spike, welcome to the forum, I thought I'd drop you a line as I'm going through a similar scenario as you and I'm bricking it ! :sweating: ( only joking ). I started framing for family and friends about 15 years ago and I'm only just about to leave my IT job in the City, well I finish full-time e...

Re: Desperately Seeking Smooth Drymount Surface

Hi, I bought a Hotpress last year and although I haven't got as much experience using it as some of the other members of the Forum, I did go to one of Steve Goodal's free Hotpress Training days. I have used the Hotpress White Display Board substrate for bigger photos, it's 2000 micron and does provi...

Some of you seem to be doubting the adhesive power of the Pritt Stick ??
I have just scoured the internet and found this promotional advertisement for Pritt,
I think you'll find this is more than adequate for photo collages !

Re: Photo collage - best approach ?

Well, for anyone who is interested , I spoke with my esteemed colleagues at the London Guild meeting last night to see how they would frame a photo collage. I didn't really fancy scanning and printing a collage, it just seemed a bit over the top for me  The general consensus seemed to be, ...

Re: Photo collage - best approach ?

Well Gents, I'm absolutely gobsmacked at the response, thanks to everyone for your thoughts on this. Actually I wasn't expecting quite such a "hi-tech" response from everyone. Years ago ( before digital photography / scanners ) I put a family photo collage together by cutting round figures...
