Are we busy at the moment or not?

I talk to other framers quite regularly as well as the businesses I frame for and nearly everybody says how quiet it is right now. I know there will be some out there who say they are snowed under but generally speaking are you finding business a bit slack? The current excuses are that summer holida...

Re: Urgent.... underpinner spring went BANG today...

Sorted !! A very nice little firm in Sheffield, Don Springs, cut off the little broken end and within minutes had restored the spring to full working order.... minus one twist. They will make a replacement if I need one so it may be of use to you to know this if you get broken springs yourself. With...

Urgent.... underpinner spring went BANG today...

my old Proturner orange/red about 20 years old..... using it this p,m, and one of the main footpedal springs broke. Fortunately I was assembling narrow plastic frame rims so I was able to finish the job... just. Don't suppose anyone might have an old Proturner or some bits? I'll be giving Pete at Fr...

526 range of Arq black mouldings.

Have any of you noticed a difference in quality recently? I know it's a fairly cheap range but generally quality has been good. Now I've noticed that the base gesso, or whatever it is called, is white with black paint surface. It was always a thin black finish with no white at all. It seems to chip ...

Dutch ripple moulding.... HELP !!

I've been asked to supply 2 frames in Dutch black ripple moulding.... and I don't know where to start. Rose and Hollis do a 3" plain wood and gesso reverse which I could decorate accordingly, but guess what, the customer does not want the reverse profile, he's looking for scoop shape, same widt...

I've discovered a solution to a perennial moulding problem..

I am sorry if you already know this "fix" but before today I didn't !!! I have mouldings in my rack, such as the satin blacks, half inch cushion, flat blacks, as well as the Confetti coloured range, which either get slightly damaged by them rubbing against one another or the racking, or ar...

Re: Using Polcore mouldings / tricky?

I use a lot of the Polcore moulding and I too have problems joining them..... at times. I can't glue them as I have to make up hundreds at a time, so from a price aspect it is not viable. I can only underpin them and hope !!!! The main problem I get is that the bottom surface of the moulding is not ...

Best way to cut Confetti mouldings ?

I'm sure you, like me, have some difficulties when cutting the Arqadia Confetti range of mouldings on a Morso. No matter how sharp the blades it always seems to want to break the edge, the bottom outside corner and the bottom part of the lip. I believe that the chop service does eliminate this probl...

Lion plastic corner frame protectors for sale.

I have several hundred brand new 15.5mm Lion plastic corner protectors, their code 5152 in the catalogue, for sale. My customer has changed the moulding he requires to a deeper version, so the shallow corners will not fit. (I now need 20mm ones) I do not know right now how many there are in the box ...

Re: 'Home Working' - a nagging doubt ...

I thoroughly recommend framing from a home workshop. I walk at least ten yards to work every day.... I'm snowed under with jobs, week after week. For ten years I had a shop in town and at the end was TOTALLY pissed off with all the crap I had to endure.. increased petrol costs, the daily hike of a 3...

Help reqd re small Arqadia oak mldg, 113 200 000.

I gave up on oak mouldings years ago... too hard to cut and join properly. However I have a customer who requires this and I must admit I am not looking forward to the job. He is going to be wanting about 10 per week, at as cheap a price as possible. What hints, tips and clues do you have for oak? I...

What is the best adhesive for hard ash mouldings?

I've just cut some 114 300 000 from Arqadia and it is like concrete. The mitre cuts shine, it is so hard ! I can only get 7mm wedges in, and even though I glue it all up as normal the corners are so brittle it only takes a slight knock and they crack open. What type of glue do you use for such diffi...

Wood glue in cold temperatures.... HELP

Since I have been working from home I find that my workshop is forever cold, especially now that the weather has turned chilly recently. Normal wood glue works perfectly over a certain temperature, they say 10 degrees, but of course overnight icy temperatures kill this idea straight away. The glue t...

Problem joining plastic mouldings...rocking and gaps.

I am not criticising Mainline in particular, but it happens to be their mouldings I am having a problem with. You may have experienced the same. Some of their POL plastic mouldings are not flat underneath and as a result do not join on the underpinner properly. They open up on the top surface and lo...

Felt tip pens for rainbow colour frames..... ?

Anybody know where I can get a set of the brightly coloured FELT TIP pens..... not fibre tipped, which are too hard and cause chipping... to help colour up the corners of the Arcadia confetti range mouldings? I've looked everywhere but can only find fibre tips or the luminous-type marker pens. It ha...

Any ideas for polishing up coloured gloss mouldings?

As careful as we may all be those little half inch high gloss mouldings always seem to end up covered in light scratches.
Do you have any wonderful ideas for removing them, if so please tell.
I've used TCut with a reasonable amount of success, but is there a better way?
