Glass v acrylic / P&P
I'm going to be selling some of my recent artwork shortly but I'm a little concerned about the glass and P&P as I have had a few pieces I've bought myself in the past arrive damaged. Larger pieces are being mounted on acm and framed without glass, smaller pieces mainly 400mm x 500mm and possibly...

Mounting combination ideas - photos
HI all, anyone have any photos showing a different mounting options for a modern print, frame will be 35mm matt black with a very slight profile. I'm looking at ideas for a double mount with the main outer board in either black or white then the inner in a bright red to create a keyline for the artw...

Re: Advice on hand painting frames
Yes there are a lot of changes going on the moment and many accelerated with Covid. Charity shops up here are everywhere, some towns have up to 10 which I find remarkable, admittedly mostly tat but I've found they are more looking at the print in a frame rather than anything else so charging very li...

Re: Advice on hand painting frames
The long term plan is to sell my own paintings, I have done plenty of commissions but I don't always enjoy the type of work and want to do my own stuff. As you say cost is always an issue , shop bought frames are pretty limited but I have been given some older more solid ones and as I travel a lot w...

Re: Advice on hand painting frames
I've used the polyvine dead flat over black and it did the job, I saw the blackboard paint in an antique program where they used it to ebonise a piece of furniture but black acrylic gesso sounds worth a go.

Re: Advice on hand painting frames
Thanks the ones I have are all in decent condition, I'm going to do some original paintings for each and want to bring the colours out in the frame, Ive done some red acrylic base with black over on a small table then rubbed back in places and it works quite well. 'The Creative' is just short for my...

Advice on hand painting frames
I have recently been given a selection of old frames and want to paint them up to suit various artwork I have ready, to date I've been using chalkboard paint for a deep black then a dead flat varnish over the top. Interested in any other black options or paints to achieve a dead flat finish? plus I'...

Re: Ideas for framing artwork on mdf boards
Thanks that certainly seems an avenue worth exploring, the frame I had been hoping to use was very high end looking and really set the work off at a cost effective price, hand painting myself would not be a problem and something I could possibly blend into the artwork or pick colours out to embelish.

Re: Ideas for framing artwork on mdf boards
Thanks, paintings will be sold direct so I'm not too fussed once they have arrived, same frame for everything to keep it simple. I have hand painted some recycled frames in the past so that could be a god option, dibond is an interesting one as its used a lot in my industry but again it pushes cost....

Re: Ideas for framing artwork on mdf boards
Thanks, its described as polcore and I have a sample cut through showing its not wood, might be some other composite I'm not sure. Basically the damage is very fine scratches that have occurred in the workshop, they have replaced them twice but still there not up to my standard and I couldn't risk s...

Ideas for framing artwork on mdf boards
Looking for some inspiration on framing my paintings to sell, there a run of quite graphic acrylic pieces done on inkjet canvas pva mouted to 6mm mdf. I've was happy with a deep and wide black/silver frame which works really well as most of the art is quite dark however the supplier couldn't guarant...

Re: Alternative to mdf for pva mounting artwork
Yes I get that the board will bow if only one side is sealed but is it not the canvas mounted to it that's pulling it in a certain direction? Stretched canvas not an option I don't like working on a flimsy surface and I've spent a long time perfecting my technique. Its not bowing to the point that i...

Re: Black premade frames 20x16 with deep moulding
Well looks like that's out, with chop and surcharge and delivery were up at 31.50 before pinning and painting and doing the actual artwork.
Polcore has arrived really happy with it for the cost, joints are passable.

Re: Black premade frames 20x16 with deep moulding
That looks about right, only concern is there surcharge for cheaper mouldings then the delivery is another 10.00,
I've enquired how much they charge for the chop.
I'm guessing it wouldn't be worth anyone local chopping a moulding for me if I already had it?

Re: Cheapest easiest set up for simple frame making
Sounds like a good idea as I've been painting up premade frames but there already vinyl wrapped so I'm not happy with the finish to sell.
Where would I get reasonably priced bare wood moulding in 55mm plus size?

Re: Cheapest easiest set up for simple frame making
Sorry I didnt explain very well, I meant the polcore options on the ready made frames are OK, I don't intend to cut polcore.
I'm not looking to frame for others merely find the elusive black frame that will do the job.

Re: Black premade frames 20x16 with deep moulding
Thanks again, fully understood, it is something I would maybe enjoy down the line, I have in the past extended the painting onto the frame so thats also an option but again a distraction!! I think the 2 polcore should suffice for the moment, however as I said a black scoop moulding approx 60mm reall...
