Re: Very VERY VERY!!!! large poster.

Having worked on items larger than that in the past, it is a matter of taking baby bites with how you think. It is definitely a several person crew job. One is handling and the moving of it in your shop, transport and installation. Measure all areas more that once and run all steps through your mind...

Re: Contemporary hand finishing.

Justin, I can really appreciate the woodworking skills of this framer as I have been woodworking since my teenage years. I hand my own single head moulding milling machine and shaper before being a framer. I just never had the nearby clientele that would appreciate that price level. I took over a bu...

Watching.
If that £3.00 rate has been the same price for several years, my second comment is even more a possibility, there is no profit at that price.

Please let all of us know what the outcome of your search is for a UK based supplier.

Re: Looking for a company to make quantities of frames

"... quality is good but the company I'm using is diversifying into other things" Is that a secret code that they cannot make a profit on this project? It might be. Your economic inflation in the UK is not stagnant. Is this company also gluing the frames together, or just what you personal...

Re: Looking for a company to make quantities of frames

That type of price will probably be only imported from the Far East. The factory will have to have automated equipment that can make a finished frame with glazing and hardware. This is the type of company that would make frames for Ikea as an example. Note that using polystyrene foam moulding might ...

Re: How to increase rebate depth

We do not know who you are purchasing your frame moulding from. There are thousands of frame moulding profiles and finishes. There are deep mouldings up to approximately 100mm that are bread and butter designs. It is up to you to talk with your supplier to see what else is available that will fit yo...

Re: Any way to ship a frame with glass?

I ship glass and highly recommend looking at the published guides by the such as FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc. for their design standards.
As a personnel note I am in favor of using 50mm rigid polystyrene expanded foam panels on all 6 sides of the package. AKA home insulation sheets for walls.

Re: Removing lacquer

A word of caution.
Getting into the the corners of a finished frame might give you poor results. It is best to modify it while it is still in stick form before it is chopped.

Re: Wall-mounting a Gunnar CMC

I would not recommend it from an engineering viewpoint as it is a precision machine. The slightest twist in the bed of the machine might damage the machine while it is operating. It is feasible; however, the bracing of the machine, to have a square platform each time it is placed into operating posi...

Re: hand mitre saws

Just a basic word of advise regarding a hand tools vs a power tools. It is all about the efficiency of handling the task at hand. It is also all about the time it takes to perform that task if you are a hobbyist or a person who is making a living on the task. In general, items made with most hand to...

Re: Limited edition film/game posters - framing but not quite

Years ago shrink wrapping of posters was a big business for picture framers in the US. Today, nothing to speak of being shrink wrapped that I know of.

With your business owner had on, is it something that you really want to get into? How much money can you make?

Re: Heavy Vintage mirror

It looks like you are missing a portion of the actual frame (lower right scroll). As a furniture store mirror that was mass produced at least 50-60 years ago they possibly used custom a stamped hardware that is no longer available. The hardware that is in your image, an offset bracket, is a common t...

My first thought is that the art is suspended above the flat surface of the backing board. A float mount.

At least your artist client has some common cense to do this procedure in the proper order of operation. My preference would be a PVA or EVA adhesive.
