Re: Re-making an old frame

Thanks Dodger. Just done some Googling, seems like that could be a solution. Indeed Liberon make a wood bleaching product which is based on the same so may give that a go. Will try it out on something else first though! It would take a bit more than "Barkeepers Friend" to make my golf club...

Re: My day in The Smoke.

Bagpuss, that conjures up a great picture. How did you manage at Fenchurch St? I worked at 55 Bishopsgate for 5 years, I miss it too! I was trying to imagine walking across London Bridge and climbing on to the (always rammed) 18:34 with half a dozen lengths of 9ft moulding. It was bad enough with a ...

Re: Re-making an old frame

Thanks for the quick replies gents. Looking back through previous posts i see you are a big fan of Rottenstone so I will give that a try.

Re the nail filler, the current Lion catalogue has Amaco wax fillers for filling holes. Has anyone used this to good effect?

Re-making an old frame

I have a project for which I have had to take apart an old frame and re-assemble it. The frame is a 3" hardwood, I think oak, which has come open at each corner. Having taken it apart, I am left with a number of holes, some with surrounding black marks. As I do not have the correct vice or punc...

Re: [Merged] Fixing backboard when flush with moulding

Take your point Alchemist. I actually used MDF and the Lion Trymblock. Worked a treat. Don't normally use MDF now but it will remain as a solution should this happen again.

Cheers, Tim.

Hello Jim. Looks a good system that. If its tried and tested then I'd say leave it alone! Can't bear IT for the sake of it - too often seen it end with :xcomputer:

Thanks for the reply and links. I have previously used a Pilot gold pen but not very happy with the results. Next time I'm at Lion I will pick up a pen.

Thanks

That looks a lovely piece of work. Excuse my ignorance all, but what tools and inks would you recommend for the lines?

Thanks

Re: Jetmounter tips anyone ?

With reference to Grays point about cheap posters / moisture / cockling etc... You actually answer your own query - a press is much better for this - top rule for laminators - "good in = good out" - "rubbish in = I wish I had used a press for this one"... Hello Steve, I have the...

Re: Workshop environment in winter

Thanks again for all your replies, I guess I have nothing to worry about provided I keep the damp at bay. It is said that a de-humidifier can help reduce your heating costs. I'm not sure exactly why that is, but a few years ago, we lived in an old timber built bungalow and the de-humidifier made a b...

Workshop environment in winter

Hello All. Now we are locked into a cold spell, I have a question about the workshop environment in winter. My workshop is in a timber building at the bottom of my garden, It is insulated in the roof and floor, is pretty much watertight and up to now does not seem to have a humidity/condensation pro...

Re: conservation

On the other hand we have had countless thousands whose first and only question is “How much?” . I was one of those countless thousands. This is an interesting discussion, but to a large extent from the customer perspective, they don't know what they don't know. About 8 years ago, my daughter paint...

Pain in the wrist!

Hello All, Does anyone else get a sharp pain in the wrist when using their Morso? I get it in my right wrist when holding the moulding against the fence behind the front safety guard. If so, have you been able to cure it or prevent it? Could there be something wrong with my technique? Innuendo free ...

Jim, please add my complements and thanks to the list. Entertaining as well as informative and worth a repeat at FF event. Mr Bear. You have read me incorrectly. Opinions are fine, but to coin a phrase, "comparisons are odious" and in in this case unnecessarily spoils the "afterglow&q...

Re: Lion Event.... the afterglow.

As another after thought on the above. One thing 30 years in IT taught me was that the big picture is very helpful, if not essential, but is easy, fun, even dramatic to talk about. The devil is always in the detail.

Re: Lion Event.... the afterglow.

I thought Lion did a great job. Very well organised, helpful people and good catering etc. Content of all presentations was excellent and there was something to take away from them all whatever your own views of the world. I certainly learned a lot and came away with plenty of food for thought and t...
