Re: Recommended Paint Spray Gun?

Thanks Nick would be helpful to see how others tackle it. My spray room is in a cellar so wouldn’t get any extra value out of a mobile unit. I have just indulged myself in a job lot of 50 broom handles off eBay for £35 so the materials needn’t be expensive! I guess that’s next weeks project sorted!

Re: Recommended Paint Spray Gun?

That’s the moulding racks now covered with far too much moulding…..! The rods were made from metal conduit pipe. It was just to try and illustrate my thought process.

Re: Recommended Paint Spray Gun?

Thanks Nick. Would you mind sharing photos of your drying racks? Not sure where to start with ours. I’m thinking an adaption of our moulding storage would probably work? But with narrower gaps and probably can be CLS timber for the wall fixings and longer wooden dowels for the support shelves? Might...

Re: Recommended Paint Spray Gun?

Thanks for the input chaps. Useful pointers. Flat or vertical drying preferred? I’ve made a simple gallows bracket with small batten steps along the top rail to support the rebates. I’m thinking if a paint run was going to happen it’ll be encouraged by hanging. I would presume flat drying racks woul...

Re: Recommended Paint Spray Gun?

Hi Forest. Just wondering if you acted on your spray setup yet? We are a week into our spray adventure so I thought I'd share my experiences so far. On Dermot's advice I contacted www.spraygunshop.co.uk for advice and they were super helpful. Adam suggested what seems to be the perfect setup for us....

Re: Bare wood mouldings

I’d give them a call although they won’t be there till Monday morning. You’ll have a apply for an account and I expect they’ll ask you for a business reference or two (a company you already do business with). I’m not sure if there is a minimum order value but you have to pay carriage on all orders -...

Re: Airlines in the workshop

Our airline feeds the Valiani, minigraf, 3x air tools and now a spray gun so lots of different pressures required. Mark & Jamie at TGS installed it for me so I assume it’s the recommended method?

Re: Airlines in the workshop

I believe the chambers on the regulator are an air filter to remove moisture and debris from the air and the other for lubrication, although I do this manually directly into the stapler/driver rather than in the chamber. We also have a tundra air drier near the compressor that removes all moisture f...

Re: Airlines in the workshop

Nothing groundbreaking but useful to see what someone else does I guess. We have a very handily placed beam right along the length of our big bench which carries the airline as well as a couple of useful industrial basket cable trays which hang beneath and carry all the cords, wires and useful bits ...

Re: Airlines in the workshop

I’m an upvote for a tool balancer. We’ve had one for 6 months or so above the assembly area holding a pneumatic framemaster gun, also with a curly whirly airline attached so if I’ve got a very large frame or need to assemble something the other end of the workshop it can still be unclipped and used ...

Re: Framing Medals

Good post. I’m all for a forum reset and images to help convey ideas is crucial. This was such a rewarding job to do. These came to us without ribbons, very tarnished in a sad and tatty box. We have a long standing customer who also court mounts medals and gets lots of clients through the military. ...

Yes, I’m off too. Until the moderator is moderated there is no point visiting. This place just annoys me now. :( It’ll be just you and the tumbleweeds soon Mark but it seems that is what you want?

Re: bonding a canvas

Do you have a heat press? Mount Cor Canvas would be ideal for this if it’s not a valuable item? Lion sell it. Doesn’t require insane heat either 60-70 degrees would be plenty. Comes with its own release paper. Anything valuable should be dealt with by an oil painting conservator really.

Hi Mark - apology accepted. I can now see it was a genuine mistake. And sorry if I was a little over-sensitive - it was an unnecessary reaction. I've never met you although feel I know you well from reading your posts over the years. You have my sympathy and frustration that you clearly want to be i...

Re: Oversized ready made frames.

You have repeatedly stated the bottom end of the market is not where you want to be yet continue to try and produce items as cheaply as possible. Should a customer with a 40x30” artwork come along - why not try to convert them to custom framing job? It sounds you are geared up for handfinishing and ...

I am about to embark on a very similar project to start spray painting frames in our unused cellar so I am following this topic with interest. We are a F&B and Little Greene paint stockist alongside our picture framing offerings, so we have a sample pot open of pretty much every colour by both b...

Re: Spring Clips

Yup we also use the canvas offsets for most canvases. Where we can’t make the standard sizes work I have found metal plumbers tape to be a very useful at making up the inbetween sizes. Screwfix do it and it’s not expensive. Found it useful for various jobs and installations around the workshop. http...

Re: how reliable are couriers at delivering orders on time these days.

In my experience of the suppliers I use - LJ, Simons, Lion, R&H order before noon delivery next day. Paid next day service (guaranteed) has got very expensive and I expect minimum order amounts for free delivery have increased somewhat since you were last ordering regularly. You definitely need ...
