Re: What do you do with your Morso wood shavings

I have a Morso chute but stopped using it. I found that chippings would hit it and bounce all over the working. This is my Mark II chippings catcher. The Mark I didn't have slots for the foot pedal arms and got crushed the first time I used it. The Mark II version has been in service now for two or ...

Recognise this moulding?

OK, here's this weekend's test. Does anyone recognise this moulding? A customer found an old sample lying around in the workshop and wants 25 oils frames with it! If don't ever remember having it which is why I didn't bother to label it...

Re: What do you do with your Morso wood shavings

Use them to light the fire. Wrap in a sheet of newspaper or, even better, one of those brown paper bags used by greengrocers. A bagful of Morso chipping is better than a standard firelighter.

Re: Insurance for framing retail workshop

Scenario 5. You have a painting on the workbench. I looks a bit dirty so you try to clean it with Cillit Bang an a souring pad. Painting ruined... Legitimate Claim? Certainly not. You should know never to use modern cleaning materials on an old painting. Vim or Ajax would have been much more approp...

Re: posting glass

I've posted a number of glazed frames to addresses in the UK, France and the US, so far without a breakage. I always use a signed-for service - either Parcel Force 48 or Post Office Special Delivery. First wrap the frame with clingwrap. Then cut two pieces of Simons Back10 board the overall size of ...

Re: Yellow Pages - No more free listings

If I’m at home and need to find a plumber, for example, I’m not likely to boot up our computer, wait for a browser to load, type in “plumber Londonderry New Hampshire” when I can just grab the phone book from the top of the microwave and dial a number. I'd rather phone a friend and ask for a recomm...

Re: Yellow Pages - No more free listings

Are the Yellow Pages still in business?

They used to deliver it but the latest copy I have is dated 2006/7 - and it's still in its pristine, unopened state.

Re: Glass Prices/Suppliers in Cardiff/South Wales

You could try Welsh Framing Supplies (http://welshframingsupplies.co.uk/). They deliver to Cardiff every Wednesday or Thursday (not sure which). They will deliver a single sheet of glass with no delivery charge so long as the total order is over £75 (Minimum delivery order is £35). They will also de...

Thanks, Martin. It's in my diary.

Upset customer

A customer popped in yesterday and wanted a cheap frame for his photo. So, I happened to have a ready-made frame and slapped his photo and said it would be £25. He got really upset and shouted something about how I should have used a window mount to stop his photo touching the glass. Really, some pe...

Some 'Cassese' wedges - i.e. those made by third parties - don't always use the same colour coding.

Re: What do I use for a worktop surface?

I just use the MDF that forms the bench tops. When I first made the benches I sealed and waxed the tops. The part of the bench where I do most of the work is covered by a couple of large cutting mats (from Axminster) so that I can trim board etc without worrying about blunting blades or damaging the...

Re: Folded parchment

Would it be safe to put it in a vacuum press (without any heat) for an hour or so? That wouldn't get rid of the creases but might reduce them somewhat.

Re: Back 12

If you have a hot vacuum press why not use Back10 (approx £2 per sheet in quantity) and adhesive film?

I use Back10 as a backing board and to make boxes for posting frames and for... well, it's uses are manifold. Maybe we should start a new thread: what do you use Back10 for?
