Photo collage - best approach ?

Hi, I have a customer that is going to bring in a collage of photos she has put together, I'm not exactly sure of the size but somewhere between A3 and A2 I think. She has positioned them with blue-tak apparently and I said I could take a photo of it , take it apart and then frame it. The problem is...

Hotpress-ing photos, advice please ?

Hi, I've had my Hot-press for about 6 months, I've used it for a few prints, posters etc, in all honesty I haven't really used it in anger yet . I have dry mounted an A3 size photo previously using tissue and conservation barrier board, I did get a slight orange peel effect but not enough to ruin it...

Re: Is honesty the best policy ?

Thanks for the pearls of wisdom Gents, I think your right, if I'm not happy then chances are the punters won't be. Take it like a man, pull it apart and make good

It's hard being a framer sometimes ..... :giggle:

Is honesty the best policy ?

Hi, I'm in the process of setting up a home based framing workshop after about 15 years of framing for pleasure. This may be a bit of an odd question but I'm very particular about the finished frame and I am my harshest critic when it comes to noticing over-cut mounts or slight blemishes on the moul...

Re: Attach-EZ For Sale

Hi Pat,
I was wondering if you will have a stall at the Spring Fair/Birmingham in February ? I have read up on your product and it looks pretty good but I was wondering if anyone distributes this in the UK ? :D

EstLite Vs PFP pricing software ?

Hi, before I launch into my question, a very quick introduction.. I have been framing "on the side" for the last 15 years, I am just about to escape my IT job in the City to setup a home-based workshop. My previous pricing (under pricing) involved me thinking up a figure and then knocking ...

Re: FATG Website

I can't pass comment on the FATG web site but in fairness to the Guild , IT projects however big / small have a tendancy to over-run somewhat don't they ? If you log onto the D&J Simons website in the mouldings section it says " Please bear in mind that this web site is a mirror copy of our...

Nasty scratchy mat black moulding ....

Hi, I spent the weekend working on three Chelsea shirts ( thanks for the advice about stretching them ), I used a mat black moulding with a decent rebate on it ( MATT/8 from Simons ), it looked fine while I was putting it together . :) When I lifted it up to the light to admire it all I could see wa...

LACING the back of a Football Shirt ??

Hi, I have scoured the Forum and the Grumble for a bit more detail on stretching a football shirt onto Foamcore, prior to framing, I have done a few Football shirts in the past but could do with a few pointers. You may be able to point me to a previous posting but before you do, please read on. I ha...

Keeping on top of things ...

Hi, I've been picture framing for the last 15 years, always as a side-line, I am about to setup a business and have to think about 'grown up' things like stock control, pricing etc., I'm going to be working from my workshop at home and know I have to keep on top of my order book. For a start I don't...

Re: Slips and Tips ??

Thanks for the useful advice everyone but when I saw that photo from Roboframer with 28 hand cut windows with slips I started to feel a bit faint and had to go and have a lie down ..... :sweating:

Slips and Tips ??

Hello there, I'm looking for some top tips on top slips ! a while ago I bought myself one of those Fletcher Filet master gizmos and I have used it on the odd occassion to attach slips to the inner rim of a mount. I don't have a problem with this at all, I cut a reverse bevel on the mount, cut ...

Re: Pesky Pastels !!

I appreciate your feedback everyone, I guess it is just a question of "handle with care", I'm glad someone suggested using bendy tabs, securing the back with my high velocity pneumatic stapler may have been a bit messy .... :Slap:

Pesky Pastels !!

Hi, I am framing a Pastel at the moment, it's not a particularly pretty thing, lots of bright colours and a fair bit of black as well. I've done a double mount for it and using foamboard to pack the mount out, there's a healthy 9-10mm gap between the art work and the glass and a 'gutter' on the bott...

'polystyrene' mouldings - or is that a dirty word ?

I have had a bit of a look through the postings but could not find a lot about 'polystyrene' mouldings ( is there a better name for them ? ). I was in Simons last week and found myself lurking about the Emafyl display of mouldings, I felt a bit of a fraud, as a bespoke framer I've always assumed tha...

Thanks for the advice Roboframer, I've never had the nerve to use that technique !
I guess I was just looking for a quick fix in the Hotpress, since I bought it a few months ago
I'm looking for any excuse to make use of it. : )

Using the HOTPRESS to iron out creases ?

Hi, first post for me, be gentle ... ; ) I have bought a Hotpress 260 recently and want to use it to try and iron out a certificate 4" x 12" which has been folded up for the last 20 years, there is an embossed sticker on it but that has been flattened out pretty much so I don't think the H...
