Re: Own framebox profile made to spec.

I have used Norfolk mouldings for various profiles of my own and was very happy with the standard of work that they provide. One particular job which they did for me was going to be in obeche, but due to a misunderstanding was supplied in tulipwood. The results in tulipwood were excellent, so much s...

Re: That's not how I was taught to use a Morso

I tried this technique on a bit of scrap moulding this morning and it does work, but it does not appear to save any time at all. Added to this the unnatural movement of your hip to move the level with your knee does not seem to be conducive to avoiding future hip problems. I'm guessing that the guy ...

Hi Keith,

I know it's a Cassesse, but I was not taught on a Cassesse, I was taught on a Morso, hence my title to this thread.

Re: That's not how I was taught to use a Morso

I'm guessing that this technique only works with particular mouldings, which don't tend to drag upwards with the blades.

That's not how I was taught to use a Morso

The following video on Youtube shows using a Morso without the usual backing off of the blades on the return stroke and also advancing the blades after each cut with the knee of the leg which is operating the foot pedal. I always assumed that it was a bad idea not to back off the blades, before allo...

Re: whose mountboard cutter is this?

There were quite a few mountcutters made to a very similar design, including the earlier C & H's (Bainbridge), Magnolia and Keeton, to name a few. I would suggest that you phone Pete Stanlick, at Framers Equipment. He's very friendly, helpful and he may be able to find you something from his sto...

Re: Charnwood M3 Foot Operated Underpinner - Opinions Please

They are a bit basic and they do have some limitations, but you get what you pay for!

A lot depends upon condition and price, so be careful!

Here's a Youtube link to see one in action:

Re: I don't even know what to call this!

Some of these sign making companies stock a mirror film for attaching to the glass in windows. I've got a feeling that this may be a possible answer to this one. BTW, if the picture is being mounted behind the glass is of little value, perhaps it can be mounted onto the reverse of the glass with an ...

making your samples from full lengths and/or sheets of mount board On mouldings which I have chosen to be a new stock item, I just order a couple of lengths, make a sample and wait for a customer who needs a rush job. Then I use the magic words, "I have this one in stock and can do it while yo...

Now I think of it, I've never tried to ask them what they think is wrong with it and can they tell me which error message this problem will cause. Could be a good one!

Re: Annoying Phonecall ...

They phoned again today. This is the windows help desk and there a problem with my computer. I told them that the problem must be with their computer, because I use Unix, not windows. My wife was laughing her head off and the caller hung up. Do you think that the next call will be from the Unix help...

Re: My Prices Verses Imported Ready-mades

Although I don't have a computer pricing program, I don't find this a problem with customers. I never explain my pricing methods apart from working from a price chart in full view of the customer. The main price chart includes individual price components for "the frame", "mount/mounts...

Re: Would you pay for bigger moulding & mountboard samples

This would not prevent suppliers from supplying new businesses, or those not willing to pay for samples, with shorter FOC samples. Perhaps some of us would be willing to put our money, where our mouths are, and see what the suppliers think about the idea. I expect that any suppliers thinking of maki...

Unfortunately, the amount of conservation related information about the use of plastic mouldings gives us l...

Re: Would you pay for bigger moulding & mountboard samples

Hi Allistair, I'm talking about companies who will supply a 12" length to make a sample, even when it's a larger profile moulding. Fair do's, free samples must cost our suppliers an absolute fortune and I'm not picking out any particular supplier. To be honest, I get fed up with tiny little sam...

Re: My Prices Verses Imported Ready-mades

I often cut mounts for customers to suit their RMF's. Many of them have no idea at all and buy frames which are too small to look as nice as they should. Some customers are really appologetic for buying a RMF and asking me to cut a mount for it. As always I'm glad to get a sale even if I didn't get ...
