Re: IKEA 0 : Bespoke Framers 1

I agree - you can bring people round to bespoke framing, sometimes it takes a bit of time but in the meantime you earn the money cutting mounts to fit their IKEA frames. It doesn't always work, some people will always want the cheapest option but potential customers are always worth cultivating - it...

Re: Moulding search

7000-0004 is still in the Simons catalogue on page 16 and it might be worth a call because we think we have seen that on their stand at Spring Fair when they are selling off lengths of discontinued mouldings so they may have some lengths hanging around somewhere.

Re: Urgent advice needed please

Sounds like the best resolution that could have been got from the situation. Hopefully she will keep to her side of the bargain this time and if not then you always have the legal route as a back up.

Re: Urgent advice needed please

This is a difficult one and not just from a legal point of view. We made sure early on that all orders are written out and then signed by the customer authorising us to do the work - this covers us legally and so far (touch wood) we haven't had issues with it. From a legal point of view they made a ...

Re: UC Glass off-cuts

We find exactly the same as Robo - we don't put offcuts back in the box of glass because there is always a problem with scratches no matter how careful you are. We are lucky enough to have good storage space in our workshop so we have an area set aside for specialist glass offcuts and each piece is ...

Re: re-using original window mount

First option is the one we would go with here - as long as they haven't bonded the watercolour to the original mount which is what you are faced with quite often on old pictures.

Free moulding - buyer collects

We've got a couple of hundred feet of oak moulding which is surplus to requirements. It has a slight finish on it which would be easy enough to strip off if you wanted to put your own finish on it. About 20mm by 20mm with a slight shape and a deepish sight edge. We are based in Dawlish in South Devo...

Re: moulding identification

That looks like a D&J Simons moulding - number OBEC/0030, page 4 of the current moulding catalogue. Simons use a square bead like this one, the other manufacturers use a rounded bead :nerd:

Re: Bullet points for magazine

Might be worth having a look at the PR toolkit on the Arqadia website - that has lots of useful info on stuff to put in newspapers and might give you some pointers even if it doesn't answer the question directly. Or the FATG might be able to help if you are a member. Personally I would keep it simpl...

Re: Honesty

We ALWAYS unwrap the frames or mounts to show customers. We learnt the lesson by watching what happened in my in laws shop where customers would regularly try it on with breakages they had very obviously done at home or on the way home. My particular favourite was a man who came back in one day when...

Re: Retail display shelving

Mark They are looking to open an Ikea in Exeter, but I guess not in time for your shop refit. You could always order online though and have it delivered. We use a combination of slatwall shelving and made to measure slatwall units, but we also have a display cabinet from Ikea and use some of their s...

Re: Morso Blade Change

We average a 3-4 week changeover on blades here. We have 5 sets in rotation - some we've had for years and others that are quite new. We get Mainline to sharpen ours and can't fault the job they do. We usually send 2 sets away at a time as it saves on the postage cost if they are in one parcel.

Re: stacking mouldings

We also start with the glass size first and work outwards from that. Far less complicated and less prone to error. The only exception would be if we had been given a maximum outer size to fit a space for a customer for eg a framed mirror.

Re: Help with a moulding - Again!

Rolf Alec thinks it is Simons 0469/0280 which is on page 65 of the current catalogue. Used to use it at his previous employers, never liked it. Colour would change every batch which is why the catalogue one looks darker than your picture presumably. Would be right for the age of the one you have too...
