Another float mounting question
I know float mounting has come up a lot on the forum, and I thought I'd fully got the hang of it. The last couple I've done have bowed at the top, between the two anchor points. I used what I think is called the hedgehog method as in the attached, with two anchor points. Is there something I'm missi...

Re: Mount chevron display
I been using a couple of older perspex ones for Neilsen Bainbrige and Colourmonts, which to me look a bit naff, but I intend to make my own from some nicely stained pine mouldings soon. I like to include a few double mounts with hand painted inner mounts as well and a few smaller and large mount wi...

Re: Mount chevron display
I couldn’t find any either when I was looking so decided to make my own. Looks simple enough and exactly what I have in mind! Thanks for the 'larger than 90 degrees' tip - I would have made it 90 degrees before realising!! It used to be a standard thing with a set of chevrons (years ago). Then all ...

Mount chevron display
Hi, I just wondered whether anyone knows where you can get mount chevron display stands? I tend to see them in the background of lots of photos of framers studios, but can't actually find anyone who sells them. I know Lion do one, but it's very much Lion logo'd and tiered. I'm looking for a table to...

Re: Oak or ash tray frames
It's a wide flat moulding which has been flipped through 90 degrees, so that the rabate is not at the rear of the frame. The fillet is added into the rear of the frame and this completes the turning of the frame into a tray. The fillet is the flat surface at the rear of the frame onto which the can...

Re: Oak or ash tray frames
Hi Nolonstacey, Centrado do one in oak. https://centrado.co/product/stelvio-oak-tray-frame-fsc-9987oa-9987oa/ As a bare wood, oak tends to look smarter, but ash would be cheaper. I am sure there may be other options at different suppliers. Nick Hi Nick. I've just this morning framed something in th...

Re: Oak or ash tray frames
Thanks Mark. I must admit, you lost me there a bit but I’ll try to get my head around it when I can find a pencil and some paper (I’m a pencil artist - how do I not have a pencil in my house!!)

Oak or ash tray frames
Does anyone know of any suppliers that offer solid oak or ash tray frame mouldings? I’ve looked at most of the main suppliers and I’m quite surprised none offer it. I know there are oak veneers and obeche, but even Rose & Hollis don’t do one.
Anyone ever come across one?

Re: Chop service
The reason the chop length is dearer is to account for the wastage. The cutting is something else. You can't really expect them to do the work that you would have had to do for nothing. I appreciate that, I guess I would just rather see a price that includes wastage and cutting. That way I c...

Re: Chop service
You need to add VAT to the £7.77 price shown and charge accordingly. But they're not charging £7.77 + VAT. They show the chop price as £7.77+vat, but are charging £9.32 PLUS VAT. What I'm questioning is why is the chop price shown as £7.77 +vat when it's actually £9.32 + vat? Larson say "we al...

Chop service
Hi, I just wondered what you all think of chop service? I have just looked into Larson Juhl's chop service and was surprised to learn that the chop price they show on their website isn't the full chop price! For example, the box oak moulding 155200000 has a listed chop price of £7.77 per metre, but ...

Re: Most suitable boxes/packaging for this deep box frame
I've always buy my bespoke boxes from https://www.ascdirect.co.uk. You do need to order 25 at a time, but they work out quite cost effective and using their 'box builder', you can choose the exact type and size. I tend to size my boxes so that there is at least a 2 inch gap all the way around the bo...

Re: Removable certificate
Thanks Rainbow. I did a search for them and as you said in your other thread, there aren't many places that sell them. Lion have them in stock. I'll wait for the customer to return before I order anything as I think I'll suggest producing a copy of the certificate to frame first.

Re: Removable certificate
So I might not be understanding it correctly, but the platform mount does make the certificate removable, but it's not a 'take it out, put it back, take it out, put it back' situation, as you'd have to retape the back every time - or am I getting that wrong?

Re: Removable certificate
How about using a platform mount in a frame with a easily removable backing board. I'm quickly searching 'platform mount'. I think I get it, but how easy would it be to remove the certificate? I think, what they're hoping for is if the person needs to go to an interview, they can simply take out th...

Removable certificate
I'm sure there's a simple way of doing this, but I haven't found it yet. I have a customer wanting a graduation certificate framing, but needs to be able to take it out in case they ever need it. I guess you'd need a backing board that's easily removable, but how would you mount a certificate while ...

Mark, I have done some 5mm deep bevels but only using hayseed bevel tape so far. I like the look on small pieces - this is a 15x15cm painting mounted using 5mm foam board with hayseed tape..

Re: "white" mountboard recommendations
If you do a search on this forum for "Bevel accents" it will find most of the threads on this subject and I think that you will find it interesting! Mark. I did just that and you’re right, there’s a lot of info in it. The way I’ve done it in the past is exactly like the video you posted, ...
