I must admit I've never heard of such gizmos. Sounds like a over-complicated way of making good an iffy situation IMHO.

But if it works..... :D
Sounds like how I spend most of my day!

Re: Beginner needing advice

Don't want to sound like I'm having a dig, this is a very general comment.

It's a good example of what you're paying a professional framer for. Not just materials and labour but specialist knowledge and experience.

Re: Simple tips and tricks.

I always write 'disco' on the back of stuff that I have a bit of in stock but know has been discontinued. Every now and then someone asks why and I always say it's because it's 'as dead as disco'. Everyone's always accepted that and never made the link between disco and discontinued. I get a giggle ...

Re: Looking to purchase

I'm sure you've put the thought in to it, so feel free to ignore this...but is a CMC the best place to start? There's a second hand ultimat gold for sale somewhere which would be an ideal choice to start with. Wouldn't lose much if you decided you did need a CMC later on and resold the ultimat... I'...

Re: Double Entendres

I'd suggest the seventies.

Then when you find them, I'd then suggest leaving them there and trying to come across as a professional business owner rather than a dirty old man.

Re: EU Suppliers needed!

I think newcomers would maybe hesitate to go and talk to other framers as they imagine the response would be to wonder why they would help someone become competition to them. In reality, most framers are a friendly bunch (with questionable business sense  ) and would be quite happy to talk shop...

I don't get it, you've posted pretty much the same picture twice.

Maybe an art expert would notice a difference or two, who knows...

Bit of turps and some steel wool will sort it I'm sure.

Never tried, but what could possibly go wrong?

Re: Moulding Suppliers Questions

I'd also recommend F.W. Holroyd, the van service is really handy. Friendly bunch too. They've also special ordered mouldings from Arqadia and Lion for us, which saved us setting up an account etc for a one off. We also get moulding from Ashworth and Thompson in Edinburgh. Same deal as the others, sa...

Re: 48MM deep tray profile

I've had some in that size in black.

Got it from FW Holroyds cheap as they were going to discontinue it. Not sure if they've replaced it with a similar one. Worth giving them a call (they're very helpful, but their website is useless).

Hi Andrew You have fitted the screw that retains the cartridge spring into the lower mounting holes when it needs to be mounted in the upper holes. (Thanks for the comments) Mark Underpinner Spares Wow. I'm not sure who you must have sold your soul to in exchange for your framing knowledge...but it...

CS88 help!

Hi! Looking for any suggestions... The cartridge spring in my CS88 snapped the other week. Got a replacement (quicker than I would have thought possible!) from Mark at Underpinner spares and fitted it. Since I fitted it though, it won't push wedges deep enough in to the moulding. They go in about ha...

Oh, I was under the impression they were valuable and the customer wanted them preserved.

Absolutely agree, if the customer's not bothered about conservation neither am I. Got enough to do without doing extra work where it's not needed or wanted!
