Framing Education - Guild Weekend 2023

Post by Tudor Rose »

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to the Guild Weekend at Stratford-upon-Avon last weekend (Saturday 14th May) and enjoyed a fantastic day of education, networking and socialising with others from the industry.

The event was hugely well supported with around 180 visitors as well as demonstrators, suppliers and manufacturers on hand to chat and educate as well as looking at the framing and mount cutting competition entries and the Guild Artist showcases. In the evening 134 people enjoyed a fantastic meal and awards ceremony. We had visitors from England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Italy, Holland, Denmark, Canada and the USA. It is the biggest event in the UK framing calendar and the enthusiasm and buzz in the room showed just how much it was valued and appreciated.

Dates for NEXT year's event are Saturday 20th May 2023 for the framing workshops and Master's Dinner and Sunday 21st May for the Guild AGM. Competition criteria for next year - open to members and non-members is:

Framing Challenge is celebrating the 70th anniversary of the publication of Ian Fleming's Casino Royale novel - your frame theme should be the original book or the 2006 Daniel Craig 007 Film of the same name.

The Mountboard competition - either handcut or CMC - is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Duracell Bunny. Let your imagination run riot and use LED lights, metallic mountboards or anything you like - it just has to display at least 1 duracell copper top battery as part of the design.

Full details and entry criteria will be on the Guild website very soon. Entries can be sent in to the Guild office at any time before the closing date next year - again full details will be on the Guild Website soon. The marketing message of Award Winning or Award Finalist is always a good one, so why not give it a go for next year?

Thank you to everyone who has given us feedback on this year's event already. We're really proud of all the organisation of the event. It was my last duties as Master of the Guild as my three year term of office came to an end, I have now handed that over to the newly elected Master and will continue to serve the members as Master's Warden and Vice Chair of the Guild for the next few years.
