PLEASE READ: FOR CRITIQUE & DISCUSSION

Post by Tudor Rose »

For those of us who work with colleagues, it is easy to get very open and honest feedback and critique of the work we produce. We can problem solve, try new things and see if they work. The "have you tried?" or "what about doing this?" kind of moment. But for so many Forum members, they work alone and so they don't have that advantage. So, following requests, we are going to try to expand conversations about items posted.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly remains the place to post work you are proud of and things you want to show off. As well as some of the "horrors" that we see come in for framing/re-framing, where our job is more about rectifying problems or undoing poor, old or battered workmanship.

But it is also a place for people to post work they are doing - or have completed - where they'd like some genuine critique and discussion from others in the industry.

Rather than create a new hashtag or section for this - it seemed more sensible to make clear that items posted in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly would be open for Forum members to ask questions, debate alternative ways to present things and find out more about why that particular method of framing was chosen. We are all adults, working in the framing industry across a wide spectrum of business sizes, types and focuses - so we should be able to have grown-up conversations that express opinions, without causing offence and while respecting that not all business models are the same.

It is about CONSTRUCTIVE criticism and is NOT an opportunity for other Forum members to jump in to pre-judge or outright criticise for the sake of it. It is NOT about being offensive or degrading of other's work. That benefits no-one and posts that seek to do that will be carefully Moderated.

I look forward to seeing some lively discussion and examples of framing work that helps inspire others to try new things or different techniques.
