blacklisted in Google searches?

Post by Grahame Case »

i think one of our competitors may have reported us as "spam" to Google,

we have vanished off the face of the earth when searching for "Picture framing edinburgh" we used to be on the first page.

if you search the same term on yahoo we have two of the top three listings

is there anyway to verify if we have been blacklisted or not? i'd quite like our position back, and save using google adwords

If your url or index page appears anywhere in the search index you are not banned or blacklisted.
here is a list of the official blacklist of banned phishing or malware sites.

If you have spammed content, are guilty of page stuffing or you have cloaked your link pages then google may drop you off the top slot. If you have a google account check the (constantly) updating search parameters to see what algorithms they are using now.
If you have been reported for email spamming then your IP is only blacklisted with spamcop which does not affect your ranking.
There are certain tell tale signs to determine if a site is banned by google. See the cache (hit counter of your isp) of the home page to see whether the google spider is crawling the site or not. The google page rank bar will appear grey rather than white. Lastly if you search the site with it's domain name then the website will show 0 results (page can not be found or the item is not in our database).
Hope this helps.
Giclee is just a term for a little squirt making lots of money

It doesn't look like you have been blacklisted because you are still visible in google. Try a site explorer check:

site:www.yourdomainname.com

Just tyoe that into a google search box.

Also you should open a webmaster account with google:
http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools

You can then check other stats, etc.

The main page is a flash animation, which may be a partial factor. The search engines like to see indexable keywords, which they use (with many other things) to determine which search terms will get results.

Perhaps just a small paragraph at the bottom of the main page, explaining what you do, could help.

The search engines are always changing the game, and the rules :)

Best regards,

thanks mike,

i sorted out our homepage to make it a bit more appealing to google etc, we are now on page 1 of listings, and will hopefully climb higher with click throughs.
