Just a hint when using Gunnar F1 Hybrid

Post by boscawen46 »

Hi I have a Gunnar F1 Hybrid mount cutter. Great machine. I have been using it for about 2 years and got to know it's ins and outs well. I cut a lot of 12 x 10 and 10 x 8 mounts most of them with double windows.
Starting with a new blade I cut all of the windows without doing the outside cut , take the sheet off machine and then repeat until about 8-10 sheets have all windows cut
( 18 smallish windows per sheet in 9 mounts). I then increase depth of blade and cut all of the outside cuts on these sheets. The blade is still perfectly sharp enough to cleanly cut these outside cuts at the right depth. Normally the windows are cut at 1.3 mm on my machine and the stepping up to 1.4mm at about the fifth or sixth sheet. For the outside cuts I then put blade depth at about 1.7 mm because the blade has a slightly worn tip.
None of the above affects quality of cut on windows or outside but definitely makes blades go a lot further.
Cheers
James
