Cutting standard bord on a CMC

Post by CanvasChris »

I am needing some mounts cut that are 32" x 32" outside dimensions. 9 apps and double mounted.

Would a CMC be able to do the size I want from a standard 32" x 46" board or would I have to go Jumbo?

I could cut that on my trucut out of a standard board as I can cut edge to edge. :)

just cut the boards to 32 sq, then ignore the outside cut, could cut on any machine then

as long as the border was more than min

Chances are that the board is not square, also may have damage along the edges. I always square up my board first before cutting the window/s

sorry to hijack this thread but in this day and age how can board not be square. At the mill do they end up with a tapering board on a long run. Maybe people with a conection to Bollington could explain this. When the board is cut at the mill is that not a straight cut. If that is the case why do the manufacturers not have to put may not be square.

This is true sometimes it isn't. However still not a problem as all I do is cut the vertical and leave the bottom uncut and that squares it up so a trucut can still cut that size and have it square. :giggle: :giggle:

Sorry I should have mentioned I am only a keencut gold user. But have had the pleasure to own a trucut, but sadly had to let it go. great machines and great people. still why is not edge marked as straight ?

I was told that when mountboard is cut at the mill it is travelling along a production line which does not stop as the cut is made. So by the time the blade has travelled from one side to the other the board has advanced a little hence the cut is not completely square.

If you lay a new board on a Keencut you can check by using the parallel lines on the machine bed. In most cases the amount it is out is barely noticable but on occasions it will be. I cut a lot of 20" x 16" mounts from Daler board which is 32" on the short side so I have to do outside cuts to make maximumuse of boards before using the CMC. I always start off by trimming a little off the long side.

Check a new sheet one day an see, it's my engineering back ground, if you start with something that is true and square, it will make life easier later on, add up all the little bits that are not true, you end up :head:

Not sure what Bollington got to do with it, who or what
