Who else has been affected by the snow and ice

Post by Not your average framer »

We a bit smowed up here in rural Devon. The main road outside the shop is clear, but only a few of the roads around here get gritted. Where we are is considered as mid Devon, but we are nearer to the south than the middle and it's north Devon that appears to have got the worst. Some of the newspapers are saying that we are due for a 1947 type winter, but I don't know how they figure this out, because the met office are not suggesting anything like this.

Anyone else affected by the snow and ice?

Parts of the US is getting glacial conditions at the moment. We usually get their weather about a fortnight later.

I returned from the Las Vegas show yesterday morning and left the airport terminal to be greeted by -13°F (-25°C). The car did start! When I opened the door to my home it was a bit warmer; but, not by much, 43°F (6°C). The gas furnace was out. I am still waiting for a service call on my furnace.

Wow, best of luck, Jerome....that is proper cold.

My Mrs was telling me about a Youtube clip she saw from The States, in which someone threw a pan of boiling water in the air outside....and it froze mid-air!

Stay safe & warm, everyone.

Dan, that is an old, old "slow news day" demonstration that has been around forever. It was probably filmed in Minnesota where it was probably -40°. The opposite shock video during the summer is frying an egg on the sidewalk or the top of a car.

She is not wrong.......... There have been many clips of doing that previously. I just said that it is not a new phenomenon.
