Updating Estlite

Post by Justintime »

Hi John,
In the help menu it says:"This function may not work if Internet Explorer is not installed on your computer, or more specifically, the file WININET.DLL is not in c:\windows\system. "
I have IE installed but there is not a WININET.DLL in the system file.
Can you explain how to correct this please?
Thanks
Justin

Hi Justin,
This entry in the help file was added years ago when a user, with Windows95 I think, was having a problem with the Update feature and it turned out that the missing dll file was the cause. This is unlikely to be an issue on a modern (ish) PC, however if you are unable to update, and you have tried everything else, then it would do no harm to verify that the file is in your : C:\windows\system32\ : folder.

Are you having difficulties updating to the current EstLite (version 9.00)?

Hi John
Yes, I am.
Can you talk me through the update process please. I think I'm missing something.
I ask to check for updates, tells me Im on 8.52. It downloads, goes through setup and closes. When i open it, Im still on 8.52.
I'm sure you've talked me through this before, but I can't find a link to it.

Are you opening EstLite from a shortcut on the desktop?
If so right-click on the EstLite icon and select Properties from the pop-up list
In the Properties window What are the contents of the Target: and Start in: boxes?

Also, is there more than one EstLite icon on the desktop?

No, just the one on desktop.
I usually use the shortcut pinned to the bottom of the screen (Win10Pro)

Does it make a difference which icon you use to open EstLite?

I've found a program in the list called ESTsoft, which opens ALTools Update.
Is this something to do with it?
When I open this (ALTools Update), it says there is a problem with my network connection and to contact the administrator.

Could it be that an over-aggressive anti-virus application is preventing EstLite from installing?

Not sure if it would make any difference but you could try running the installer (EstSetup.exe) as administrator.

You can download estsetup.exe from https://estlite.com/download.php

Never heard of ESTsoft

Bingo!
Security Firewall was blocking it.
All sorted, thanks John.
Hopefully I'll remember this next time...

HI John,
Update time again...(I don't find this easy...)
Wanting to update from 9.0.
I followed your link on your announcement, through to the Estlite page.
Switched off my firewalls...tick
Downloaded it, opened it.
Its a brand new version without all my settings.
How do I now move all my preset markups etc into the newer version??
Thanks

Also, I now have an excel sheet of pricing from Rose and Hollis, is there any way that I can drag and drop this into the software?

If we can get access to the R&H spreadsheet there should be no problem incorporating their moulding list within the EstLite system.
I'll look into it.
