Help identifying Venture photography moulding set

Post by jmdwilson »

Hi

Could anyone please help me identify the moulding set from attached photographs - they were made by Venture photography.
Customer would like to recreate same look and same profiles.

All mouldings are dark brown with grain showing through.
The outer frame is 40mm wide and 32mm deep.
The slip is flat 15mm wide and approx 6mm thick
The inner moulding is 12mm wide and approx 6mm deep.

Does anyone know where Venture get their mouldings from? they didn't want to tell me....

If someone could identify the set that would be great - I have 6 to do!

Thanks
James

Closest thing I can think of is the Simons "Pheonix" range but not sure the dimensions match. Venture may have had them made to their own spec. If you are trying to match other Venture stuff then Arqadia mouldings would be worth a look.

Having said that the Venture network is very much smaller now than it used to be and a quick look at their website suggests the frame range is much smaller.

Hi Jonny

Many thanks for the Simons pointer will have a closer look at it. Venture are much smaller than they once where.

Have tried Kaleidoscope framing who have taken over from the original supplier to Venture - Border Frames - they suggested that Venture made their own profiles in-house. This does make sense so they can be the 'only' suppliers of the moulding so you have to go to them to get more photos framed. Customer pay for the frames and look as well as the photos.

I may have to go down the route of spraying some barewood profiles to match.

Meanwhile if anyone knows where Venture does get their mouldings from that would be great - here's hoping

Having their own profiles made would make a lot of sense given the prices they charge for exactly the reason you state.

I know who supplies Venture, and my guess is these mouldings are made specially for them.
Which will make it hard for you replicate then, unless you can find something very similar from a UK distributor.

Venture have no in house facilities to make mouldings.

The moulding are only square sections by the look of it. There are lots available in plain. The tricky bit is matching the colour, but it looks as though a couple of coats of paint and a buff-up with a waxy duster would do it.

Freshly machined square sections usually come with quite sharp edges which look better if you gently radius them a tad with sandpaper.
They don't look as though they bothered doing that.

Thanks all

Keith - could you let me know who supplies Venture please - thanks.

Prospero - yes they are only square sections and that will be last choice if I can't easily get hold of manufactured moulding. The biggest problem is the very thin and not deep at all inner moulding which is 12mm wide & 6 mm deep inner rebate 3mm. I will have to have all of them machined as nothing available off shelf to size - Norfolk mouldings or rose & hollis. Matching colour won't be difficult.

Thanks
