morso

Post by red »

hi folks

have been setting morso up ,I finally have good mitres but have a little niggle
I followed the advice on previous posts re left hand fence. here is what I did

1 .lined up fences and measuring arm with straight edge- no joy gaps on inside
2.tweaked left hand fence towards me bit by bit again no joy
3. tweaked fence away from myself past table 45 degree mark cuts as good as I can get

my niggle is that when I put a straight edge on the fence there is quite a gap -
does this matter as long as it cuts accurate mitres?

No it does not matter. The whole point of moving the fence is to get accurate mitres! And the inevitability of moving the fence is that there will be a gap.

You will find that the cutting angle goes off as the blades get blunter. With razor-sharp blades you hardly need bother
tweaking the fence. Wood being organic and slightly 'springy' will throw as less-than -perfect blade off track. We are talking
tiny amounts, but any slight deflection will be multiplied x8. All these inaccuracies accumulate and show on the last corner.
The wider the moulding, the bigger the gap.

It's important to also ensure that the blades are seated correctly. A tiny piece of muck between block an blade will cause a deviation.

thanks for replies, I fitted new blades fitted I will re check their fitting
its good to know it doesn't matter if fences don't line up perfectly
From what ive read on here there is so many variables with the morso
to cutting perfect mitres
am I right on this?
there is more to this framing lark than meets the eye!

The more you have to move the fence in order to close the inner gap, the more noticeable this becomes.

(Yes, both sides in the illustration are the same width)
