framing a plaster relief

Post by nickhood »

Hi, i have a plaster relied to mount and frame. The customer has asked for it to be mounted on am MDF board and the board framed in a deep moulding.
The relief weighs 2.25Kg and is 350mm x 190 mm x 20 mm. The MDF board measures 735 x 570 x 9mm. The customer is happy that the relied once fixed will be permanent. Question. Whats the best adhesive to use. several people i have asked have suggested Silicon but i am concerned that it will not be strong enough to support the weight. I have tried to persuade the customer that it should have a supporting frame but she is adamant that she wants it adhered to a board. any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated.

That's a mighty lot of exposed MDF around the paster relief, , are you going to paint it

Just done a quick search on the forum , found this thread
https://www.theframersforum.com/viewtop ... ast#p30188

have a read through that, you may come up with some ideas, by the way some of the images will not show, as one or 2 of the guys are no longer members I thinks ( don't quote me on that)

you could always let her stick it to the MDF :sweating: :giggle: , then bring it back for you to frame

Surely melinex could be your answer, very very strong even when cut thin.
