Help with matching moulding (again!)

Post by Machiners2 »

Hi, I’ve now got my hands on the frame I’m trying to match. I’ve found something (thank you GeoSpectrum) from Rose & Hollis, but as suspected, it’s not quite the same. Any thoughts on other ideas of companies to try to find the exact same moulding? The frame I’m trying to match was done is South Africa, but very recently.
Any help appreciated.
Thank you!

Get in touch with the SA framer and see if they'll ship over how ever much you need chopped. If the customer will cover the cost.

Simplest way though would be just to reframe the existing one in the moulding from R and H.

That's a fairly simple profile so you should be able to get it custom milled without incurring tooling up costs.

http://www.norfolkmouldings.co.uk/ do 100ft runs.

Have you offered the Rose & Hollis profile to the customer? It's pretty jolly close, I think that it's really nit picking to reject something which is so close to the original.

Alternatively, if they only have one frame using the original moulding, then you could offer to re-frame the original in the Rose & Hollis moulding as well, which will also result in a perfect match.

Getting 100ft machined specially to order for just one frame makes little sense to me, when you already have a potentially so much easier option and importing anything from overseas is probably more trouble than makes sense too.

It will make the moulding slightly shallower but I'd be getting my router going and shave a bit off the top to make the face a little wider. Paint the sample black and I bet the customer would go for it.

All great advice, thank you. Spoke to the SA moulding supplier, and they don’t have an outlet here, and shipping the 40m I need too expensive. Waiting to hear back from Norfolk on making something up for me. But yes, I agree - with a little adaptation, the R&H moulding is pretty close and I’m hoping they will go for it. Will let you know!
Thanks
