Who is the Artist?

Post by poliopete »

I hope someone can help although I have not got much to go on. :(

I have five small water colours of Penguins that inhabit the Falkland Islands and South Georgia. They are exquisitely done, extremely detailed and very life like. They each depict a different species of Penguin in small groups of two's and three's.

They appear to have been mounted recently and a torn price label on the back of one has the word "NAFFI".

He/she is obviously a talented wild life artist who perhaps resides there or was stationed there,

Although they are signed I cannot make anything out of the signature otherwise I would research on line.

If someone has seen others like this or has any ideas I would appreciate their thoughts,

Thanks :D

Thank you very much for your replies. :) :)

Hi Justin, your suggestion prompted me to do a comprehensive search on Google. I have used every permutation of artist, Falkland islands, Penguins, wildlife, NAAFI I can think of and none of the signatures or artwork match. I have even contacted the Falklands NAAFI and drawn a blank. :Slap:

Hi Andrew, that artist work crops up often and FWIW and IMHO these water colours are the best I have seen :giggle:

Hi Steve, uploading a pic' or two makes much sense. Unfortunately, I am not yet capable of that  but I am getting there.
If I can inlist the help of my grandson, who is much more IT savvy than me, and follow the instructions on the FF, I will try and do that.

Once again thank you all very much.

Peter,
I realise that you have just done a google search, but with the "Goggles" app (if you have a "smart"phone) you can photograph an image and it will search for any trace of it online, work a shot, if you've got the phone!

Thankyou for taking the time to reply.

You can also use the google image search facility on a desktop computer. Just go to the google home page, click on images and then on the camera icon in the search box and upload a jpeg :D

Not sure about other browsers, but this is a really handy feature in Chrome, just right-click on any image and select this option from the resulting pop-up box: Search Google for image

Who is the Artist?

Post by Bobble »

An experienced 'birding' customer of mine was offered a freebie trip to the islands to help with counting, netting & ringing birds, etc. at the expense of the RAF, presumably. So a talented photographer/artist could easily while away evenings painting and then donate them to the NAAFI stores to help repay some of the immense costs involved.
My friend had a whale of a time, needless to say. Ex army so happy to rough it.
Just a thought...

HI john and thanks I will try and give that a go :D btw I am so envious of your computer skills

Hi Bobble thanks that sounds very plausible :D

In return for taking my two grandsons "Crabbing" today at Wells-Next-The-Sea, my daughter has promised to come and photo the water colours and email them to me.

I will then take up David's kind offer to upload them to the forum after I forward them to him :D

More importantly, the two little lads landed 22 crabs and 2 Shrimps between them

Thank you for that David :D

I have just logged on so I can only see five brown blocks at the moment :head:

As soon as I can see the pictures I will provide a little more info.

For people who can see them and are interested I used Arqadia Silver 8358 and Arqadia cream 8213. The moiulding is one found in a bargain bundle, small gold with a slate/blue line.

All five images have up loaded now and are as follows;

1 - 2 x Magellanic Penguins
2 - 4 x King Penguins
3 - 2 x Rockhoppers with a chick
4 - 2 x King PenguinsLooking
5 - 3 x Genico Penguins

Looking at our photo's I can see they are not good enough to show the signature or enough detail. I am sorry about that, it was our first attempt, will try and do better next time.

For anyone interested in work shop layouts mine is around a 7' square work bench with plenty of draw space underneath. Clockwise I have a small s/s sink with hot water, phone, Morso, Cassese 89, glass rack, first of two plan drawers with mount cutter on top, table/chop saw and a second plan drawer.
