Backing Tape
Hello again, tape for finishing off the back of frames. I think the Seksui is the most widely sold, I find that it's not very stick and tends to peel. I bought some tape from Simons which is excellent in the stickiness department but is a bit thin and see through, doesn't look very good. A hybrid of both would be good! Any recomendations please, Cheers.
Re: Backing Tape
Water Activated gum tape.
It looks better.
It lasts virtually indefinitely.
And it's cheaper.
There are some things it won't stick very well too - poly moulding, backing board with a waterproof coating.
Everything else - great.
You really need a dispensing machine which is not cheap, but a good investment. I've had mine for 30+ years.

Re: Backing Tape
I stock both Sekisui and gummed paper tape. Gummed paper tape is in my opinion far better than any self adhesive tape and saves a significant amount of money. However the Sekisui is good for doing quick while you wait jobs. If you are getting some gummed paper tape, please be aware that there are different thickness of both paper and gum, plus the cheaper rolls generally are not the best quality.
When it comes to gummed paper tape, I have not found the cheaper rolls to be as good as I need as the presentation when using the cheaper stuff is disappointing. The thicker varieties of gummed paper tape are also in my opinion much easier to apply and generally go down flat without wrinkles very easily.
The Sekisui tape can lift and bubble after the customer has taken it home in hot weather, particularly when hot and humid. Eco tape is less prone to this, but is too easy to see through and I find that the level of initial adhesive tack with the the thinner (normal) Eco tape is significantly less as well. I have not tried the thicker version of the Eco tape, so I do not know if this is any better.

Re: Backing Tape
I have been using BT50 picture framers tape, much prefer it Tesa tape and was not impressed with the eco from Lion.
Only problem with BT50 is its a bit see through but if it was thicker probably wouldn’t be any good. I am yet to try gummed tape.

Re: Backing Tape
Why does anyone want to use self adhesive tapes? Good quality gummed tape goes on wet and wrinkly but shrinks to dry to a real professional finish.

Re: Backing Tape
VF The question was regarding bulk framing of pop photos for sale on ebay etc. As stated in another thread conservation materials still used for mounts, barrier etc but just wanted something quick and easy for the outside.

Re: Backing Tape
However I will now be ordering some gummed for other jobs due to the help on here so nice one all.
Re: Backing Tape
Once you try wet tape you won't go back to s/a.
For quick and easy application you really need a good dispenser. Wetting with a sponge is too much faff.
The wetting machines aren't cheap. But they are a good investment and pay for themselves quickly.
Pull the handle to wet the right length. Return the handle to cut off clean. Slap it on. Smooth with
a cloth. Sorted.

Backing Tape
The pictures on Amazon give a good indication of how see through the tape is. I bought one roll to try and much prefer it to Tesa tape so bought six rolls the stuff from Lion, was terrible eco25+ (will save for wrapping parcels etc.)
