Gluing Leather to Wood

Post by Framingbird »

I've been asked to make a leather frame for a client. Can anyone recommend an adhesive that will attach the leather to wood?
Thanks

Any good contact glue should be fine, in the past I have used the spray contact adhesive, (found in the flooring dept of B&Q etc) spray on both the leather and the wood moulding, (first cut you moulding over lenght, ) when both are tacky, apply the leather, once dry, cut the moulding to the finish size and join, job done.

I get on well with "impact" adhesive. Although sometimes a second pair of hands is called for to help line up the two surfaces as there is no second chance with this stuff. Once stuck it's really stuck.

If you decide to use this type of adhesive then work somewhere well ventilated as the fumes are quite pungent and if like me, you don't look your age, take some proof that you are over eighteen :giggle:

PS. Take Steve's advice and over cut the lengths first.

Hi, Might be a little late here, but have you had a look at the Angus range from Larson Juhl (Arqadia)
it is moulding that has leather already on it.
