I have a customer who’s looking for a thick moulding approx 5 inches plus
Has anyone got any recommendations of the best supplier to purchase such frame?

Thanks in advance

I think you would be hard-pressed too find such a thing though regular suppliers. Mouldings tend to stop at about 4" because
that is the max size a Morso will cut.

Best to look at stacked combinations. :)

Yes, Prospero has pretty much hit the nail on the head with that, Another thing that you will notice is that many wider mouldings have deep grooves cut into the reverse face to counteract the increased tendency of wider mouldings to twist and bow. Stacked mouldings is perhaps one of the more obvious ways to approach this problem, or the alternative might be to get something custom machined to order.

You have not mentioned anything about the actual frame size and if this is for anything particularly large, you may need to consider how deep the moulding will need to be in order to prevent any distortion, or bowing over time. Really wide profiles take a bit of thinking about in this respect.

Also choose the type of wood you are using for wider profiles with care, particularly if the profile is not particularly deep and try to avoid less stable woods, such as pine to minimise the risk of bowing and distortion. Often larger profiles are produced from sections where different pieces of wood have been laminated side by side, so that the wood grain in the different pieces of wood will counteract the bowing in adjacent pieces of wood.
