Removing plastic tape from frame

I've got a repair job to do, and removing the plastic backing tape is taking forever. It's a relatively old picture and instead of drying out and being easy to remove, the tape seems to be welded to the back of the frame and is just coming off in tiny bits. Has anybody got any tips for removing resistant plastic tape :head:

Try heating it gently with a hairdryer or similar. Should make it easier to peel away.

This is where your scrap glass comes into play. Cut a small piece and use it to scrape at the tape. When the edge of the
glass gets gunged up, switch to another edge. Some edges will be sharper than others. Go steady and don't lacerate yourself
and it should plane off quite easily.

A solvent like lighter fluid will loosen it, but it's a messy process.

Thank you both for these excellent tips. I've broken off for lunch but will go back to it with renewed enthusiasm and armed with a new array of tools as suggested!

Petrol (lighter fluid) is a great de-gunger. Just soak kitchen towel in it and wipe off the crud.

Thank you, cleaver :)

I'm pleased to say that the frame is all nicely cleaned up now and ready for its new mount. Thanks for helping me out over this
