Oak Moulding - 65mm wide

Post by scotframes »

Hi Folks,
A customer of ours are looking for oak frames for their canvases. Width approx 65mm. The closest I can find to what they are looking for is the attached from Rose and Hollis.
Appreciate any help in sourcing a moulding. All of the main suppliers have a limited range of profiles.
I also offered to route out a rebate from a skirting profile, however this was too expensive for the customer.
Many Thanks
Tony

The nearest suggestion that I can make is Rose & Hollis SW9576 in either Obeche or Pine and hand finished / stained to look like Oak. I'm not personally much of a fan of Obeche, because the grain lacks the appearance of a decent wood, so for me the choice would be the pine moulding.

Thanks for the reply, I did offer this solution as I actually have a couple of lengths of pine in stock from years back. Customer didn't like this option, however I suspect they may have to compromise or pay more for what they really want :)

I'm pretty much sure that the moulding that they want is not going to be available off the shelf. It's probably a special, that's been made to order and won't be cheap to get it machined to special order.

Hi Mark, agreed, I'm sure that the little shop in Peebles has probably had those samples for quite some time. Unless they make them themselves :)

Getting it machined would maybe be the best course. This has been a popular profile for many years so chances are
the mill will have the requisite knives and you won't have to pay tool-up costs.

Try Norfolk Mouldings. Their min run is 100ft I think......

Thanks for the reply. Yes min order qty is 100ft or 30m. Same for Rose and Hollis who would also make the profile in oak for me. Unfortunately too much for what's required by customer.
Appreciate the response :) thanks, Tony

I don't think that it will be all that easy cutting the moulding on a Morso either. I secretly suspect that you might not be too upset that the customer, does not want it done after all.
