measuring for L shape / tray frames

Post by Trinity »

Is there a better way than my ham fisted trial and error on the morso.
The upright bit is 12mm wide and the visible base of the moulding is 25mm; I want to show about 12mm of it around a canvas, how do you equate that to a mountboard size that you transfer onto the morso.
Please.

Isn’t it just 24 on the slider and size of canvas on the bed?

So the canvas/painted board is 40x30cm you want to show 12mm or 1.2cm of the tray bottom
40cm + 2.4cm (1.2cm x2) =42.4cm wide
30cm + 2.4cm (1.2cm x2) =32.4cm high

You set the morso just as you would any other moulding, the thickness of the upright is the same as normal moulding width (minus the rebate) it's normal square moulding upside down

for the long lenght 12mm on 42.5cm on the measuring scale (depending on how accurate your Morso is)

for the short length 12mm on 32.4cm on the measuring scale

I life 2 to make the gap between the canvas and the inside a multiple of 5mm, so that I can cetre the canvas inside the tray using pieces of 5mm foam board while I screw it into position in the tray. So each length of moulding is cut to:

! x the revelevent canvas external dimension + 2 x the diminsion of the gap each side of the canvas + 2 x the thickness of the outer wall of the tray moulding.

Easy, I do it this way all the time and squeeze in my small bit of 5mm foam board to hold the canves in the correct place, before screwing it into the tray.
