Methods of fixing hinges to display cabinet doors and frames.

Post by Not your average framer »

Since my stroke, I don't find it easy fixing hidges to display cabinet doors and frames. To be completely honest, using a chisel to cut out recesses to sink hinges below the surface of the wood, is no longer something that my manual dexterity is good enough for. I have not been able to do this since my stroke, but I am thinking about producing display cabinets again and want to find ways of being able to do this again. Anyone got any good ideas please!
Thanks,
Mark.

Thanks Dave,

I had not thought of this! Any idea, how much piano hinges cost? I am hoping not to restrict my profit margin too much!

Hi Dave,

Your suggestion has put me on the right track. I phoned my local hardware shop, but they have had difficulties obtaining piano hinges. However they suggest hurl hinges which are the ones, where one side folds into the other when the door is closed and therefore minimises the gap between the door and what it is hinged too. These hinges are reasonably long and will easily align with the door and frame. Also they are a good price as well. I want to hinge some pairs of frames together as well, as I have a hunch that these should be a popular sales item with the customers.
