I join the big frames that I make by putting a biscuit in each corner, gluing up and assembling and then throwing a strap clamp
around. I can then wrangle it to the underpinner. The v-nails are maybe not essential. I just do them just out of habit. I normally
fix a 3" steel 'L' plate on the corner as well. This method may seem a bit OTT, but it makes moving a big frame about without opening
the glue joints easy. Also, you don't need arms like a Gibbon. I leave it in the clamp >24hrs and the resultant join is VERY strong, :muscle:

But.... My answer is largely academic as the clamps I use are not made anymore. The possible alternatives just not workable. The nearest
things are trailer tie-downs. I've tried these and they seem to be unnecessarily complicated. Others have a sticky-out bit that gets in the way
and aren't really man enough for the job.
