mecca varnish

Post by Compomouldings »

hi

I am using mecca varnish on silver leaf, however it doesn't seem to be drying completely and is still tacky after several weeks. Is there to get it to dry and what would people use to thin it?

Thanks

I've never used a proprietary Mecca varnish but I'm assuming you bought it from Gold Leaf Supplies.
On their website they describe it as a shellac-based varnish, so you would dilute it with meths. It should have dried hard in a few hours. You might have a faulty bottle. Ask for another, try it and if that is better, return the other for a refund.
