I'm sure Art Imaging closed a few months ago
Maybe someone can confirm this?
Scameron77 - I suggest you speak with Ken Ralston 07803 158159
Ken knows Scotland maybe better than anyone.
I'm sure he can help you with sourcing ready cut mounts, and other information.

First of all mount board comes in 32" x 40" (812 x 1020mm) size.
You will have to fine a price with your local suppliers as I am in the US.

Ah you're right. I believe it was an insanely high rent increase that caused the shutdown. Plenty more contract framers around I'm sure.

Can anyone suggest individuals or companies in Scotland able to do custom mounts please with the potential for volume in the future?

Thanks in advance

It might be worth checking out some of your existing framing suppliers as some of these operate their own in house mount cutting service. I don't know which different suppliers do this, but Wessex Pictures certainly used to offer such a service via Wessex Fine Art before Covid came along and they even operate their own van delivery service for most, if not all of England. I don't think that their van delivery servce extends to Scotland, but maybe I am wrong about this. But they also can deliver by normal delivery companies.

One likely advantage of finding a framing supplier which offers such a service would be that framing suppliers are likely to have extensive mountboard stocks, which might illiminate any waiting times obtaining the necessary mountboard type for your order. Added to this there are plenty of forum members who have their own CMC's which are perhaps not running at full capacity and might appreciate some extra work for their CMC's and can arrange direct express delivery from any other part of the mainland of the UK, as a next day delivery, so not being based in Scotland may not be an issue!

I hope that this may be helpful,
Mark.

Thanks Mark,

Based on how this thread has gone I think I'd like to source someone local to me. I've been given the name of one in central Glasgow, so 20 miles or so, ideally I'd like to find one closer so nipping in would be easier.

20 miles is not so bad, perhaps there's a nice place to grab a quick cuppa while you are on route as well.
Glad you have got a good outcome.
Mark.

Where are you in Scotland?

How sure are you of the 50 per week?

If you're sure I would definitely go for a cmc from the off and then get it set up for the sizes required.

If you're not sure yet then look to outsource it in the meantime. It will obviously eat into your profit margin but will save a large initial outlay.

I'm in Motherwell @pramsay13

I'm pretty sure for the first year I'm going to farm it out, far easier and less hassle. I'm not sure how successful things will be so therefore I think it best not to commit financially.

You could try Caledonia Fine Arts in Lesmahagow, maybe a slightly easier run that into Glasgow.
