Mounting canvas to a Board

Hi thecreative.
To answer your question, any sort of wet adhesive is going to be a bit messy.
I suggested plywood as it is less liable to warping even if not cradled as seen on the Ashcraft Framing web site.
The other advantage of using plywood is that it is compatible with using PVA glue. The acm is a composite board of plastic and aluminium, both of which are unsuitable for use with PVA glues.
PVA performs best if allowed to cure under pressure. A cheap vacuum storage bag will give you sufficient pressure to satisfy that.
Use a roller if you will but I wouldn't like to rely long term on the bond.

I would always glue the board to a slightly larger sheet of canvas and then either trim away the excess or fold it over the sides. Either way is OK as the edges are hidden under the rebate.

Thanks - the acm works ok & I have a decent cheap supplier, not sure how the plywood will compare on cost or what level of bowing I will get.

If its going to be messy either way then probably not worth going off at another tangent as I need to concentrate on the actual art!

What would be a rough cost to get a 400 x 500 dry mounted at the framers if I painted the canvas loose? and would it pull out any rinkles?

Yes, do whatever you're most comfortable with.

I don't do any sort of dry mounting but I'm sure some others on this forum will give you better advice.
