Slight tear in the paper
I've got a job which is a print, ready mounted (although I'm doing a new mount). The paper has a slight tear in it, about 1cm visible and then running under the mount. As it's only a print and not of any real value, it's not worth sending to a restorer but I'm wondering if it's worth trying to do something with the tear myself. The paper is quite thick and fibrous, so I'm wondering whether it might work to *very slightly* dampen the reverse and then press the fibres together. There is no image going over the tear, it's just the white background. Is this a really bad idea? Any other ideas?

Re: Slight tear in the paper
I take it you will have considered extending the mount margins to cover the tear? Sorry for stating the obvious

Wish I could, fitz, but unfortunately the artist's signature is right at the edge so extending the mount would cover up part of the signature

Here's a link to a simple repair -

That is what I'd be doing and taking note that the print is not of high value.

We use the PEL paper repair tape, but only on the back. Looks like the Arcare tape is the new version of the PEL tape.

Re: Slight tear in the paper
Excellent, thank you both. I've got permission from the customer to go ahead with the tape and I've ordered it.
