Mountboard moulding

Post by NTG999 »

A customer asked for a frame similar to attached photo, black frame with a deep rebate, there is a smaller moulding to edge the mountboard and step the picture back; it looks like the smaller moulding has a step for the mountboard (but I could be wrong), does anyone know if this style of moulding can be purchased anywhere?

Looks like a slip fitted to a mount with a reverse cut bevel. You should be able to get them from most suppliers - if you can’t find a black one get a plain wood and paint it

That's what I would term a 'fillet'. :D

Many suppliers make complimentary fillets that match a moulding (as appears to be the case there).
LJ/Arcadia did a lot but not sure what they do atm as I hardly never buy finished moulding.

You can always paint a plain wood one as YPF says. A black one wouldn't be difficult.

Rose&Hollis do a few plain profiles.

Yes, the fillet has a step for the reverse bevelled mountboard to butt up against. you will need to pinwheel some 1400 board underneath the mountboard to make it sit level.
