Morso Spares
Hi!
I have been offered a Morso at a good price, but it doesn't have the sliding measure or the sliding stop on the arm. Does anyone know where I can get both parts at a half decent price? I have seen the sliding stop on underpinnerspares but that alone is £72 excl vat. If both parts are going to set me back £150 or more then the Morso isn't that gooder value!
Thanks

Re: Morso Spares
Morso spares are expensive and maybe that is why the price looks good.
Have you tried Peter Stanlick at Framers Equipment in Northampton?

Re: Morso Spares
Here are my thoughts Smiffy.
I think you will find that morso parts prices will be fairly uniform across suppliers. So if I was you I would ascertain what a fair price for a morso in full working order is, then find the best price for the spares. Once you have this take one from the other and then go back to the guy with a revised offer for the machine. Also take into account that you are a having to get the parts and fix them to the machine.
So for arguments sake if the going price for a second hand morso is £700 (purely hypothetical I don't know what they are going for these days) then the parts are going to cost £150 then personally I wouldn't offer any more that £450.
I did this with my trucut mount cutter and got £4000 off the asking price because of the work that needed doing to it ( the seller failed to tell me it needed this work but a quick phone call to Bob at Trucut got me its service history and what was wrong with the machine) .
Cheers

Re: Morso Spares
Have you asked why there is no measurement system fitted to this morso?
It does seem a bit odd, I can't imagine why anyone would remove the measurement system from a perfectly good Morso. Perhaps it's not a perfectly good Morso after all!
It's not very easy to determine if everything is working as it should, if the machine has no measurement system. Be careful, it might be a waste of money!

Re: Morso Spares
Cheers for all the replies.
I got offered it for £500. Having done a bit of research, i dont think im going to get a second hand measuring slide and slide stop, because as rightly pointed out, the machine that the person would be selling the parts from would be useless, and its not too often that one would break to be used for spares.
I can see the parts costing me in excess of £200, new, which would then bump up the price to £700... Time for reductions or cancellations of orders i think!! Unless ofcourse he drops the price to £250!
Thanks again!

Re: Morso Spares
I have just had a look on Ebay and saw that there is one second hand one for £1000
If that is what they go for then £700 probably isn't a bad price, but as Mark said what else may be wrong if the measuring arms are lost?
There is one other on auction here
Good luck.

In the last 6 mnths I've sold two Morso on eBay. Both for around £500. Both with sliding scale/stops and both with spare blades. It is worth waiting for one you can afford.
Just my 0.02 worth.

Hi Smiffy,
To keep your Morso in TIP TOP working order only use Morso genuine spares and blades.
You will find them here.

Moderators have to be careful about what is allowed to go without commenting, or acting upon. I think that the post could be reasonably said to have an element of bias and of self interest, which is not helpful to the purposes of the discussion threads on this forum.MITREMAN wrote:Hi Smiffy,

I have not seen any evidence that you can only keep your Morso in tip top condition by only using genuine Morso blades. In fact I know that there are a lot of alternative blades in use throught the industry. This statement is opinion presented as fact. Please be more careful when commenting on discussion threads.
If you wish to offer your services to the originator of a thread, my I suggest that a pm to the originator is the more appropiate action and is in keeping with the normal behavour of most other suppliers. I know this because various other suppliers have contacted me in this way.MITREMAN wrote:You will find them here.

Discussion threads are primarily for the purposes of discussing the subject of the thread. Jonny2Morsos has been kind enough to have already given you a mention. I think that should be enough!

Well said Mark, that was a little biased. I would say it was ok for one of us to say that or to give a personal recommendation, but that was shameless Mitreman and for it to be reposted beggers belief.
But Mark by just quoting him you are drawing more attention to him. Remember no publicity is bad publicity.
I'm doing it now.

Re: Morso Spares
Hi Not your Average Framer,
Point taken I will use PMs in future.
But I will state this and I am sorry to disagree,
I personally I would rather see someone buy a genuine part from any Morso agent than a cheap imitation, this also takes business away from the inventor of the machine and damages business, its like fake goods.
That also goes for any machine like underpinners with cheap imitation wedges and people who are not suppliers who try and encroach on any suppliers products, this pushes prices up for suppliers who have to hold stocks and tie up lots of money for minium profit most suppliers try there best to keep prices as compeditive as possible and give a good range of products and you wonder why people run out of stock.
As for Morso blades you are totally wrong Swedish steel in the Morso blades is far superior to any other.
Even when I worked for Magnolia and we built our own type of Mitring machine the quality of the steel was never a match to the quality of the Morso.
Buying non genuine cheaper parts destroys companies and puts prices up and not only in the framing trade.
I can understand if somebody making parts for machines that are no longer available or the company is gone bust, this is a help in keeping machine going till they die, but doing it before is wrong.
Regards

Re: Morso Spares
If morso have an issue with copyright surly that is up to them. But as a customer surely I have the right to choose who I buy from and what I buy. Scaremongering and implying we can only buy from established reputable dealers is surely not akin to a free market that operates in this country. Is there some sort of cartel between genuine morso resellers?
